@jamonholmgren If backend means a public API, you want REST. Service to service, or a system where you expect to saturate the network? gRPC all day. A pure web API? tRPC seems to be quite popular and although I've landed a PR there, I haven't actually used it in production.

Which version of JSONata does @AWS StepFunctions support?🤔 Tried the internez and AWS docs but no mention about version support. JSONata 2.1.0 brought elvis & coalescing operators but those weren’t supported in AWS eu-central-1….. Anyone? @edjgeek ? 😬

@benjamenpyle I did exactly that. Got some spare time and implemented Lambda Authorizer for JWT tokens with Rust. Nice to see those blazing fast cold starts compared to nodejs. Still some work to do, certificate chain validation is still missing…

Variables and JSONata support (instead of JSON Path). Step Functions users are now able to assign values to variables and avoid passing data between states. JSONata brings a lot of transformation functions that were not possible with JSON Path. aws.amazon.com/blogs/compute/…
