Some thoughts on the S3 Vectors preview launch this week. This one has been really fun to build, and it's exciting to be able to finally share it! linkedin.com/feed/update/ur…

Hey @lookbindings, I absolutely loved my pivot 360s. Right until the metal snapped and turned them into a sharp edge attached to my ski as I fell down the run.

@QuinnyPig @CTOAdvisor That’s pretty awesome. But just so I’m clear: you are saying that route 53 is definitely not a database, right?

@andywarfield Fun story as per your conversation with @CTOAdvisor: the “Route 53 is a DB” gag was originally going to be about S3. I changed it at the last minute because using S3 that way wasn’t actually ridiculous.

I will say that I find the giant picture of me to be a little unnerving, but the article itself is great.

Customers are very vocally asking us to bring S3 closer to their applications and to developer interactions with their data. Tim's article does a great job of talking about where the team is heading.

@0xdabbad00 Scott, this is a good call out. 11 9s is a number that we design for internally in engineering against component failures like drives and servers. We use it to choose redundancy schemes and size repair fleets. AZ failures are treated separately here: docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/lates…

I am uncomfortable with how S3 Express One Zone is discussed as still having 11 9's of durability, like normal S3. Data is spread across multi hard-drives still, but all within one zone. youtube.com/watch?v=sYDJYq…

Werner asked me to put together a written version of some of the material from the FAST talk that I did earlier this year. The article is up this morning on #allthingsdistributed.
