Inside word has it that GSK's exit wasn't entirely down to operational reasons. Apparently, a well known cabinet minister who is also an investment banker tried a hostile stock takeover of GSK Nigeria, not unlike what his boss's Oando did to Agip, and GSK decided to exit Nigeria rather than deal with another greedy Nigerian power monger with the entire apparatus of state capture at his disposal. Instead of letting him take over their 50+ year-old Nigerian business, they decided to exit Nigeria and its wahala altogether, and start selling medication to the Nigerian market through a middleman (which means you will now pay significantly more for the same medication). You will now buy GSK medication at up to 20x its previous price because a billionaire Nigerian cabinet minister decided he didn't own enough assets and he wanted one more. Anyway, we were all warned about what a Tinubu presidency would mean. So anything we see, we will take it like that.

You’ve always been a tryhard, Festus. Right from the mid 1990s at Expressway Kingdom Hall. Everyone knew you as a desperate tryhard, always trying to cosplay authority and presence you did not have. All these years later and you’re a cabinet minister, but that stench of 1995 tryhard is still smelling on you. I don’t know how to explain it. You’re like Lamidi Apapa when he appeared in new clothes, a haircut and a Mercedes-Benz with a police escort and he somehow still looked wretched. That air? That authority? That ability to wield narrative and command respect? You will never have it no matter how many more times you mortgage your soul in search of it. Maybe it’s that voice that sounds like a pepper grinder with a stressed fan belt. Maybe it’s that constant facial expression that looks like you just had an Okada accident on the way back from begging for a fee payment grace period extension at your kids’ school. Maybe “aura” is just not something divinely ordained for you to have, no matter how much you’ve always wanted it. You are and will always be Festus the talkative fuckboy from 1995. You will keep on trying to buy your love and respect by the hour until you disappear from view. In the words of your FEC colleague, “If it didn’t Dey, it didn’t dey.”
Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FCIArb (UK)@fkeyamo

So, this is the overall view of what is happening: we have a set of people who believe in the absolute rightness of their own ideas; the infallibility of their own positions and the fact that ALL institutions of the State MUST accept their own views before these institutions can be seen as ‘credible’. In other words, they want to be the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary and even independent institutions like INEC - all in one! They brook no opposition to their set ways and views; they see themselves as God Himself that is immutable and does not change! That is the CLASSIC PREDISPOSITION of DICTATORS AND FASCISTS. Hence, the nation actually dodged a bullet in their case. Fellow Nigerians, these individuals are a small minority masquerading as speaking for the ‘majority’. They draw their oxygen from the attention the gullible ones give to them and the unending engagements they get from reasonable citizens who try to get them to see the other side of the coin. So, after the judgment by the Supreme Court, they say they have moved to a virtual world where they do not recognise our President. Fair enough. They will not be the first. When Donald Trump won, many Americans said they were living in a virtual world for 4 years. Therefore, my simple advice to my fellow compatriots is to leave these individuals in their virtual world. Don’t engage them; don’t argue with them. If you do, then it means you have also exited the real world to the virtual world; it is only a madman that argues with a madman. Leave them where they are. It is the DAY THEY CROSS THE VIRTUAL WORLD TO TRY TO DENY THE AUTHORITY OF THE PRESIDENT IN THE REAL WORLD THAT THEY WILL FACE THE SAME INSTITUTIONS THEY DISPARAGE. We are waiting for them to cross that line. Bye!
