@CaryKelly11 Does this mean McDonald’s frozen French fries are better for blood sugar than fresh in-n-out?!

I thought this was a bunch of bologna, but it’s absolutely true for me. My blood sugar scores were 20 to 30% lower when eating next day rice or potatoes.
Shining Science@ShiningScience

Here’s how to slash sugar spikes from pasta — and make it healthier. Scientists discover that cooling cooked pasta for 24 hours transforms its starch into a gut-friendly fiber that slashes blood sugar spikes. When you cook pasta and then cool it for at least 24 hours, the starch molecules undergo a process called retrogradation. This molecular reorganization transforms digestible starch into "resistant starch," which functions more like fiber than a simple carbohydrate. Instead of being rapidly absorbed in the small intestine and causing a sharp rise in glucose, it travels to the large intestine where it feeds beneficial gut bacteria as a powerful prebiotic. This simple kitchen hack not only supports a healthy microbiome but also encourages the production of short-chain fatty acids that help reduce internal inflammation. Beyond gut health, this transformation provides a significant advantage for metabolic wellness by slowing sugar absorption and improving insulin response. Perhaps most surprisingly, these health benefits remain largely intact even if you choose to reheat the pasta before eating. By simply planning ahead and refrigerating your noodles overnight, you can effectively lower the caloric impact of your meal while maintaining more stable energy levels throughout the day. This game-changing strategy allows you to enjoy favorite comfort foods while prioritizing long-term health and better blood sugar control. Source: Bullen, A. (2022). Once it tips, it will happen fast. There will be attempts to outlaw the use of AI, but the economic incentives will be too powerful. Nations will have to figure out what to do with a wave of unemployed, formerly high-income members of the priestly caste who have no prospects.

@thomasknox the flip side is that it sounds like defendants can expect better public defenders (assuming compute is affordable)

@kimmonismus When you say you don't share this view, do you mean the risk is low or that humanity will not rally?

Google CEO says the risk of AI causing human extinction is "actually pretty high", but is an optimist because he thinks humanity will rally to prevent catastrophe (To be clear, I do not share this view)

@signulll You have to find the places using paper based compostable packaging, or do dine in where they use actual cutlery. Better packaging is more common across SF and the Bay, but rare US wide.

been trying to cut out plastic, but it’s insanely impossible. last night i ordered doordash, everything came in plastic, steaming hot. i could taste the microplastics. deli containers, plastic bottles, everything. america’s so saturated with plastic, it’s basically as ambient as oxygen. we’re all pretty much fucked.

@reidjjackson What’s shocking to me is that a lot of podcasts aren’t on YT despite its popularity among listeners. Seems like an easy thing to boost listenership

@NightShiftMD Is it safe to eat takeout from the containers if you aren’t reheating in the containers?

Remove food from black plastic containers and reheat them in containers made of glass, stainless steel or ceramics to reheat them instead. Dust, mop and vacuum frequently. And don’t buy kids’ toys with black plastic pieces. END. 7/n

A thread on #BlackPlastic. Black plastic refers to products made of plastic coloured black due to the addition of carbon black. The latter is produced by the partial combustion of petroleum products. It’s to make the plastic stiffer and less likely to degrade. 1/n
