@FrankDenneman ELT by default. Use the power of your DW cluster's hw parallelism, SQL and the query planner/optimiser. For streams, ELT microbatches. ETL if you have to sanitise things on-prem before sending them out, or if filtering/consolidation would cut data transfer costs.

More fundamentally each & every instance of collection, storage and processing of PII needs a separate lawful basis. I’ve yet to see a single privacy notice that a parent/pupil could understand that paints a full, clear picture with each lawful basis laid out.

I still have to battle through DPAs/PNs from school suppliers who say they share with partners and 3rd parties such as X, but on digging they mean they use X as a sub-processor. Language is key!
