@KellyScaletta @Peters652 It’s not *that* false. We see this all the time in our compliance casework. The more wealth a taxpayer has, the more likely it is they can afford reps to help them run out statutes of limitations, submit voluminous responses, etc. They tend to have a lower bill at the end.

@KellyScaletta And, finally, this data is based upon total positive income. A high wealth individual can obscure income, or receive it in a passthrough entity. Those returns aren’t captured in this chart - because this is only showing individual tax returns.

@KellyScaletta Further, folks at the lower end of the income spectrum tend to not have representation. So they end up receiving additional assessments, sometimes unfairly. The process of reconsidering an audit is extremely complex so most lower- and middle-class taxpayers just pay it.
