That salary is due to overtime. Yes they make good money. It subtract 40K from that amount and that’s the real salary they are earning. But again if you jealous they earn so much go form a union and get better wages in your industry!

@vorleon @zedsamcat I didn’t say a strike is theft, I said refusing to budge on comingling is theft.

@cysygy123 @zedsamcat It’s workers bargaining over a contract. You can disagree with their demands, but a strike is not theft.

@vorleon @zedsamcat Got it, so looting taxpayers as a means of leverage is good because it’s not coercive state power

@vorleon @zedsamcat Do you support cop unions refusing to respond to crime during contract negotiations? That’s labor leverage too,

@notchrisvolpe so in order to be pro-labor people need to be blindly pro-labor to people who are making upper middle class salaries on the tax payer dime and are still getting a not too shabby raise while also withholding key transportation infrastructure from those who pay for it?

The LIRR strike really is a litmus test for who is and isn’t pro labor bc a lot of yall seem to think middle class workers shouldn’t be allowed to ask for cost of living increases since they’re not poor

@cysygy123 @zedsamcat Fraud requires deception. A penalty payment explicitly written into a CBA is just a contract. If MTA management was incompetent enough to agree to that work rule, blame the executives who signed it, not the workers enforcing it

@vorleon @zedsamcat If you work 7 hours on 1 train and spend the last hour of your shift on a different train, getting paid for 16 hours of work is tantamount to fraud.

Which means having to work overtime, wrecking your health, and not seeing your family. It should cost something to employers who encourage those conditions.
Izengabe@Izengabe_

@QueensCrapper The median compensation for LIRR employees with overtime & benefits is over $200,000 a year. They can f*ck off asking for more from taxpayers without agreeing to some of the same common sense work rules Metro North operates under.

@LinkofSunshine How many of those people who live in Manhattan for half that own homes and cars? The latter of which is absolutely necessary to live in long island.

@SaraYolotrader @Izengabe_ @zedsamcat If these are the two perspectives you're taking away from this thread and situation overall, it does not shock me why you fall on this side of the argument given how lost you are. I'm so sorry friend

Blocked me so I couldn't respond but I would bet my bottom dollar this person isn't actually from new York - also boo fucking hoo lol I also work in an office, plenty about it sucks. I am thankful every day I do not have to work in the blistering cold or hot sun.

@reluctantmutant @zedsamcat Comparing an office worker sitting in a climate controlled cubicle to a track worker handling live third rails in sub zero winters is hilarious - they work mandatory nights, weekends, and holidays in hazardous conditions
