Reason boomers lie about how much they went out to eat & how tough they had it economically,is simple. They don't want to admit to leaving their children a much worse future. Prior generations usually left their children a better future. Other reasons are selfishness & stupidity.

If the criticism was accurate I might take it to heart, but I don't pay $28 for lunch, buy new iPhones as they come out, use DoorDash, or any of the other nonsense they always spew. I work hard at a good job and I save, but in the past five years my rent and electric bills have doubled, as have the prices of most consumer goods. I've cut out TV and streaming services, given up nearly all of my hobbies, and reduced my diet to sandwiches and cheap pasta. I can't afford health insurance, even through my workplace. My car is a few years old, but it cost about the same as the junkers here because the state mandates annual vehicle inspection, so cars have to be kept in like-new condition all year round, which means that newer cars tend to be cheaper over time than old ones as they break less often. I'm lucky if I can afford to eat out more than three or four times a year. My last anniversary was celebrated at a cheap motel in Bangor that smelled like curry. Everything I do with money is focused on saving it. Meanwhile my bank account continues to shrink and I'm told that it's my fault because I live too extravagantly by people who have a four bedroom house and a stove that actually works. A lot of young people don't help themselves, but the economy is, in fact, fucked beyond recognition and I refuse to be blamed for it.

If my whole family ate sandwiches for every meal 3 times a day only our grocery bill would still be 800 dollars a month. To follow budgeting guidelines, I would need to make 64,000 dollars a year…to afford to only eat sandwiches. You can’t budget your way out of poverty.

@valleofroses @kindgirlroblox @virtuademon I remember a few years ago when FA was becoming a popular aesthetic, "frutiger aero" was the actual term used for design from that time period. These days it's basically just spamming 15 year old clip art and stock photos and pretending like it don't look like shit.

I hate to be cynical but the idea of the Denny's Grand Slam is less cool when Dennys is behind it. The original was so much cooler because it was done behind Denny's back right as the location was being shut down, and is insane it was pulled off. This is just an ad for Dennys
Denny’s@DennysDiner

after 13 long years, @dennysdiner x @livewithouttx reunite oh and if this music video gets 500k likes my boss said we can do a live show 👀

Jesus doesn’t ask us to be “vaguely nice” to each other. He *demands* that we are to be radically, self sacrificially devoted to each other at the peril of our own soul should we fail to do so.

Notice how Joel's response to rising food prices is to give personal financial advice? This is because conservatives are are incapable of conceptualizing a society, they can only conceive problems on a personal level.

@NoressaLynn @ryancduff I think it's because it's difficult to accept this as a status quo. Compared to older generations, we're forced to put more effort into just living, and some things we can't afford at all such as housing.

Both things are true. It is harder today to get by. And people, for some reason, don’t like being told it’s still possible if you are disciplined. Like, there’s a visceral reaction to hearing encouragement and “you can do it if you really try”. I see people doing extraordinary things all the time. Average people. Some kinda dumb people. Trying beats whining any day, even if the conditions aren’t perfect.

@chopperface69 @Schmutz_7R He's right because "wasting" money is easier than ever now. A little bit ago, you could get a passable fast food lunch for well under $5, whereas now, you're looking at like $20 minimum.

@Schmutz_7R He is not saying that at all. He’s saying the current generation wastes money where others did not. And he’s absolutely right.

Are we really about to give up clean water & air, our national parks, our health, privacy, and autonomy so that a group of narcissistic nerds can become trillionaires?
