Yesterday, I gave a welcome party for our new colleague Holger Rauhut in #Mathematics at @LMU_Muenchen. I learned this tradition from universities in the US. To my mind, in these days when in presence meetings among colleagues are veryrare, such social events are very important.

On a historical note: During the Golden Decade of the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (then NIPS, now, NeurIPS) from 1990-2000, I had 16 papers published in its proceedings, more than any researcher working in Europe.

Often repeated by my supervisor @CSProfKGD too. You should be able to get the gist of a paper by just reading its figures and captions. This is what captures attention, otherwise you’re discouraging ppl from reading on.
