Another year goes by, another Canadian-based NHL team will not win the Stanley Cup. Over the last three decades, it has been only U.S. based teams winning the Stanley Cup. With United States 🇺🇸 Men, Women, and Sled hockey teams winning gold this year 🥇 in the Olympics, can we finally say hockey is America’s game?

@WatchMyReview @mcclusk Being held up at gun point when his car was stolen in etobicoke, getting death threats about his son, being the punching bag player to the fanbase when things went wrong in the post season, only getting to the second round twice, to have most of the team not show up. Dark times

I defended him a ton as a Leaf, wanted him back, but I wasn't a fan of him saying that. The only issues I had with Mitch were actually nothing to do with his on-ice performance. He is really bad at interviews and always does damage to himself, and obviously the contract negotiations were not done well by his team. He's gotten some really bad advice in his career by his dad and people around him.

I really hope everybody who criticized Mitch Marner for mentioning “dark times” after winning the western conference finals just heard Jordan Staal mention the dark days after winning the eastern conference finals. You absolute morons.

@mcclusk Ill give better praise to danford, but I see the resemblance you mean. Hes looked right in place at the AHL level and being so young still, he seems to have a promising career.

I mean this as a compliment - Ben Danford reminds me a lot of a young Travis Dermott. Hope they're patient with him. He has that pop in his step that can make you think he's ready before he is. Skating is there and he probably had his best game as a Marlie last night. Some great plays at both ends. Should also note he's made a number of mistakes these past few weeks that can't happen at the next level - some which led to grade A chances. Important to know this if you've only caught the highlights. Still building consistency as a pro - still in his first month. He's adapting quickly. Dermott was similar. He could hold his own in the NHL when he was called up, but I'd always felt like he could have used some more time in the AHL to round out his game. Gotta find that sweet spot. Looking forward to watching his game continue to evolve through this Marlies run.

@VinSharma95 Agreed. Now, when they challenge it, do they say the player on the challenge?

@TomBrady80 @JeffMarek Ive traveled across most of canada, so i have made many friendships with people over my 40 years. In high-school alone, we had 28 students between 2 schools pass away from suicide and freak accidents.

@w_donaldson @JeffMarek That seems like a mathematical disaster that’s highly tragic and unfortunate and must feel very striking and harsh that so much tragedies happened close to you. I mean most people in today’s world don’t even have 6 friends so having 6 friends that died by suicide is wild.

We have to be able to talk about suicide. I understand nobody wants to say the wrong thing and upset anybody but I feel the way we avoid it is doing more harm than good. It's unhealthy.

@w_donaldson @bigheadhcky yeah maybe, 13 year old me loved kessel. It was phaneuf that took a lot of heat. And a huge difference is we got an actual return for Kessel unlike mitch who we could’ve got rantanen for. Kessel didn’t cause as much unnecessary drama

15/16: Phil Kessel, initially a fan favourite, gets traded from Toronto after years of media issues. Wins the Cup. 25/26: Mitch Marner, initially a fan favourite, gets traded from Toronto after years of media issues. Makes the Finals. It's not happening again, is it?

@AlexNg91 @bigheadhcky Yah thats the difference right there. You were only 13, so your view was much different as a kid. Phil got a ton of hate from media and a lot of fans turned on him too. Phaneuf got the same treatment yes. With marner, its not so much him causing drama

@AlexNg91 @bigheadhcky I honestly remember a completely different reaction to Kessel when he was here. Just wasnt as noticed with social media, because social media wasnt a platform to hate on people like its become

@SundinEra @tmlfaninvan When he was saying “God’s in this city” he was referring to Maple Leafs players and their status (as gods) in TO. They’ve always been held in high esteem, pedestal-like. It’s always been the case here.

Mitch Marner called himself a god on his hometown team and then walked when it didn’t go his way. The “dark times” he’s talking about is him finally realizing his ego was truly an issue and it had to change. #LeafsForever

@SundinEra He never called himself a god, he said the fans treated them like gods. Comprehension and context matters. Not to mention he wasn't wrong, most fans do treat the leaf players like gods.

@burnsieoriginal I would say its not as much them throwing hits, but the failed attempts to move from a hit has taken to them the hardest. Those moves are what gets guys banged up the most and I wouldnt be surprised if their bodies are just run down at this point.

It’s time to recognize Carolina’s physical game. They’ve been dominating the Habs in that area of the series and it’s no surprise they’ve been carrying the majority of the play. Montreal needs to find a way to counteract it or match it at the very least otherwise they’re going to be chasing the rest of the way. Rod Brind’Amour type hockey is old school and effective.

@thegoldenmuzzy Vegas has done a good job shutting their stars down this series to be fair and give credit where its due. I feel this is why Carolina moved him. Get some fresh meat for playoffs. Then of course the rantenan thing happened.
