The way I think about double income household is simple: Both spouses should split individual income into 3. 1/3 from both sides goes into running the home (rent + utilities + groceries) 1/3 from both sides goes into savings and investments, Remaining 1/3 is yours to keep. Whether they earn equally or not, it works. Nobody is overspent. Spouse A earns 4K, Spouse B earns 2K. Rent, utilities, groceries = spouse A 1,300 + spouse B 700. Savings and Investments = 1,300 + 700 When a spouse is unable to work, there's enough reserve in savings and investments bucket to cushion the working spouse. Anyways, none of this will matter if you marry your enemy because that's what it looks like you people are marrying.
