An old couple approached the Allahabad HC seeking maintenance from their daughter-in-law, stating that they were aged, illiterate, and financially dependent on their son during his lifetime. After their son died in 2021, they were left without any means of sustenance. It was argued that all service-related and retiral benefits went to the wife, who is also a constable in the UP Police, and therefore should maintain them. The court rejected their plea as per the law. A daughter-in-law is not required to maintain her deceased husband’s parents, even if she receives all the benefits and pension. On the other hand, if a husband dies, the wife can claim maintenance from her in-laws. Even if she remarries, she can still claim her share in the ancestral property from the father-in-law. Why are we running a Kalyug society with Satyug rules?

@omarali50 @phl43 Distance from the core & Arabs never accepting Asian Muslims near equal is also a reason for confusion among them. In alternate world Asian Muslims of Arab origin ( practically) should have right to the land of the religion.

Sunni manpower is concentrated in Asia, but Sunni Jihadism is very arab-centric. Indian Muslim intellectuals are wannabe arabs for centuries, but even now most common people are not arabs. Indonesians joined the party even later and provide near zero support for contemporary Jihadism till now (OK, they bombed some australians once, but mostly they have been out of this till now.. some of them had a jihadi phase in the past, which legacy lingers in Aceh and in the east in Mindanao etc)... the pessimists will tell you its just a matter of time and Bengalis and Punjabis will fight the next jihad, but we will see... it may even be so, but that just means they will lose too. It is a losing proposition, that is the bottom line :)

Always keep this frame in mind: Islamdom is in crisis. Sunni Islamists went for jihad and lost everywhere, meanwhile their compromisers found a good life under the American umbrella, but could not sell it to their people bcz Israel cruelly beats up Palestinians w US support. Now Shia Islamism is saying "we can actually win without your level of cuckery". This will cause massive heartburn in Sunni lands. Sunni jihadism will try again, but with even less success than last time. Rinse, repeat. Someday, we will move on.. (in our case, to India, I hope, but otherwise it will have to be China)

Hilarious. Madam Rao makes an accusation in a sentence in which she says that we must not make accusations: "Not to throw accusations against each other but to think calmly and sensibly about the future ahead" As if only she is able to define what it means to think "calmly and sensibly" What sort of frauds have we placed at the highest levels?
Nirupama Menon Rao 🇮🇳@NMenonRao

The women of India and Pakistan need to deploy our ingrained common sense and suggest ways forward in our relationship. We need a women’s caucus. Not to throw accusations against each other but to think calmly and sensibly about the future ahead. For the sake of our children. We need to bring in the counterpoint: without naming it, without sounding defensive, but making it impossible to dismiss. For decades, India–Pakistan engagement has been trapped in a single script: territory, terror, recrimination. We repeat it with ritual precision, but it yields diminishing returns. What if we widened the frame? In West Asia, especially the Gulf, our interests often run in parallel: energy security, diaspora welfare, maritime stability, crisis response. These are not abstractions since they affect millions of lives and the resilience of both economies. Engaging here need not dilute our positions, create false parity, or reopen familiar disputes. It can remain tightly bounded, issue-specific, and without prejudice to core differences. Skeptics will argue that Pakistan cannot compartmentalise, that any engagement risks being instrumentalised, and that peripheral cooperation has never altered core hostility. But the purpose here is not transformation, it is insulation. Not to resolve the conflict by other means, but to prevent it from defining all means. Some may also say Pakistan has found a “role” in the Iran crisis and India should not be seen as seeking one. But this is not about visibility or mediation. Our interests are structural not transitory. If anything, the moment underscores a larger truth: even adversarial states operate beyond their disputes when interests demand it. When the central track is blocked, responsible statecraft does not stand still. It explores parallel ones, carefully, deliberately, and on its own terms. Sometimes, widening the field is not weakness. It is strategy. The women must speak.

The movie came just a few years after IC-814 hijack, Kargil war, Parliament attack and many other terror attacks planned and executed by Pakistan. A blatant try to whitewash Pakistan’s terror factory. This storyline - This hate is by only few, otherwise Pakistan is our friend and brother - is exactly the propaganda that has been shoved down our throats since decades. This gives an alibi to Pakistan state machinery, army and any India hating Pakistani and points at some mythical invisible enemy that is causing all the harm. It’s not only a lie, but also hides the facts in a very shrewd way. Just a few years after this movie, Mumbai terror attacks happened. So much for Aman Ki Asha !

Hatred for Hindus in Pakistani movies: - A Pakistani soldier wanted to shoot an Indian soldier because it was as unacceptable to him to let a Hindu step inside Pakistan. - Indian soldier mocked him and said go back to Pakistan and you will see "Hindus" dancing and singing in every household of Pakistan. Apparently, he was frustrated with dance and songs in Indian movies which was as against Islam. - Pakistani soldier then went on a rant about how Indian movies are destroying Pakistan from within because they have dance and songs and Pakistan will lose even after winning the war at Border. 😭

If Pakistan as location ends up being a mediator, it’s not surprising. Reasons : 1. US would want a totally servile lapdog situation and leaders to be the mediators to the negotiations happen in their favour. 2. Iran has no place or player left where US might agree. Highly unlikely, or rather near impossible that US would agree to China, Russia or North Korea become a mediator. Iran has no major reason to oppose Pakistan’s mediation. Relations aren’t the best, but still it’s not Israel. 3. Iran has bombed almost all major model east nations. No nation would host them to mediate or would like to get involved. 4. Pakistan would kill to be in this position. Brand Munir gets a big boost internally. They’ll be compensated heavily and a good chance to improve relations with Iran. 5. Ideally India could and should have been a neutral and right choice. But US cannot impose its choices that efficiently as it can in Pakistan, and also that India has reasonably better relations with Iran. What does it mean for India - 1. Technically, nothing. It’s not our war. They can choose to negotiate anywhere and choose anyone as mediator. Except for our immature commentators on media panels, and opposition leaders who love to pick this up, no one actually cares. 2. If, India was the mediator, it means our relationship with US would have reached a point that they would trust us explicitly and believe that we will do their bidding. Since we haven’t behaved like that, so they don’t trust us enough to lead the mediation talks. Fair enough ! We stand our ground. 3. India’s position geopolitically and even internally shouldn’t be gauged on what Pakistan does or does not. Pakistanis celebrating this as an achievement literally has no impact on us. Indians should view this as if these negotiations were happening in Poland or Norway or anywhere and just wait for the outcome. Anyway, doesn’t matter where the talks happen, it’ll be great to see peace return to the ME region.

Western morality & self loathing came as an act of remorse for all the atrocities they committed during colonialism. By being the apex predator. Indian intellectuals picked up the self loathing, without ever being the apex predator. 😅 India never reached that stage. Yet we keep whipping ourselves for romanticising power off screen or on screen.

That’s my point. When hardly any Pakistani can name a Persian poet, artist, song, movie of the last 500 years from outside the subcontinent but most can name thousands of Indian artists, songs, etc. then our organic culture is Indic, and Persian was merely a foreign imposition.

We adopted our son from India at 2.5 and had a 15 hour flight home. He cried for almost the entire flight. I did everything imaginable to calm and comfort him -- to no avail. There were points of the flight that we were both crying. The frustrated looks from other passangers didn't help, and all I needed in that moment was some kindness. They make really great noise cancelling headphones these days, and I wish our culture was more supportive of families and children.

Is there anything worse than a crying baby on a plane? I wish parents would control their children. It’s so disruptive. I refuse to believe a baby cries for 10 hours. At some point this is just bad parenting, right?

If this is true, it amounts to rubbing salt into our wounds. While Modi was admiring his fake medal and the BJP was drooling over a make-believe “Dhurandhar,” Pakistan was positioning itself at the diplomatic table during a critical global moment. One was chasing headlines. The other was shaping outcomes. This is a matter of shame for every Indian.

I love India but this is simply not true. Mexico is an upper middle income country with $14,000 GDP per capita while India is $3,000. This is reflected in the material conditions and availability of public services and infrastructure. I went to one of the poorest parts of Mexico (Oaxaca) in 2012. This is their equivalent of Bihar. The streets were clean and municipal services and enforcement (against things like encroachment) was robust. That being said, violent crime in India is several orders of magnitude lower than Mexico. Most foreigner tourists could walk through an Indian favela equivalent with no credible threat to their safety.
