African artistes have long been opening doors long before Wizkid entered the studio. African artistes have been making headlines and pushing the boundaries before the collab.
Artistes like K'naan didn't need a collab to put Africans on the global map. Also give credits to the likes of D'banj, P'Square, and others. We also have non-Nigerians like Angélique Kidjo who have done way more, and other legends from the late 80s, 90s, and 2000s. When it comes to Nigeria, no-one has opened more doors than Fela, the pioneer of afrobeats himself.

So some context on the prosecution and conviction of the Adeyeye AKA Swanky, who falsely declared a 6 year old dead and carried out sustained online attacks on AG and his family. In arriving at its decision, the Court considered the pleas made on behalf of the convict, including his parents’ apology letters, health condition, age, demeanour before the Court, timely admission of guilt, and the fact that he is a first-time offender. After considering all relevant factors, the Court sentenced him as follows: 2 years on Count 1 under Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes Act 2024; 2 years on Count 2 under Section 24(2)(i) of the Cybercrimes Act 2024; and 1 year on Count 3 under Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, with the sentences to run concurrently. The Court also gave an option of a 1 Million Naira Fine and further restrained the convict from engaging in any further conduct capable of injuring the complainants.

There’s no reason on earth anyone should be jailed for making comments about them. Wishing death or declaring death on someone is not a criminal offense. It is not, and can never be. People don’t die because you declare them dead. If it worked that way, Tinubu would have been dead long ago.
It is the duty of Adekunle Gold to protect his family from the internet. It is not the duty of the Nigerian judiciary. The Nigerian judiciary does not exist to protect celebrities and their families, it exists to try criminals.
