I really love calculators like this: walletburst.com/tools/fire-cal… I want to make one for Hampton or other projects. Not sure what it'll be yet, but what are the easiest tools to make these on? Just excel?

@dorse054 I'm 6'3", probably about 185# right now, I hope to one day get as big as you at your leanest! 😅 I lift 4-5 days per week but hiking and MTB on the weekends burn a lot of calories

I quit playing football my sophomore year in college and dropped from 265lbs to 215lbs in 7 months, probably ~10% body fat (never got it measured) Ran and lifted 6 days a week, cut out all carbs, dairy, and alcohol. Zero tolerance policy The trigger? A girl, well a couple girls. I was into them, they weren’t into me blah blah, tale as old as time I vowed to get in unbelievably good shape so that wouldn’t happen again, and I did And believe it or not, it worked. Basically never had that issue again - ended up marrying my now wife :). Lesson in there about the value of physical appearance whether we like it or not Now I’m back to 270lbs, albeit a much different body comp compared to then (significantly more muscle mass), and I think I look pretty good! Not as good as before though 😮‍💨 I’d love to look like this again, even better preferably, but the level of neuroticism this took was unsustainable We’re working towards it though, little by little. This time for a different reason (health and personal satisfaction)

@dorse054 Just curious Nick, why settle down in the bay area? Asking as someone who grew up in Wisconsin and currently lives in Mountain View.

In these last 5 years my wife and I have moved 4 times 2017 Minneapolis > 2018 Mountain View > 2019 SF > 2023 Sierra Nevada foothills. All major changes on a number of levels Each move has been a blessing, and made sense to do at the time, but they’ve come with a price. Make new friends, new communities, new relationships, it’s been non-stop Meanwhile my parents are getting older in MN, they say they want to move to CA eventually, but my dad turned 70 this year and he’s not getting any younger after many surgeries on his knees and hips over the years I love where we live now, and feel so blessed to have the type of property that we have, but for a couple of reasons I can’t see it as being our long term ‘home’. Maybe a second house if we end up settling down in the Bay Area? To be honest I’m kind of losing sense of what the word ‘home’ means. I’m 28, my wife is 30, we have no kids yet. Maybe kids are the variable that makes a place, home? I really don’t know. I remember feeling like the place I grew up was home, but I’m having a hard time recreating that feeling now as an adult I don’t know if this is relatable to anyone else out there, but it something I’m feeling pretty acutely right now I keep thinking about the next financial steps for us. About how achieving more financially will somehow create the security needed to feel like a place can be a home, but really I know that that’s just an illusion, and a pretty shitty one at that I want to make my wife feel secure and like she’s at a home, in a home, committed to someplace. She’s the type that needs community and to feel a sense of home (really so do I) We both are able to work remote, although once we buy this hotel I’ll be needing to be in AZ frequently I’m just not sure where we should live, and I don’t think it’s really healthy to perpetually be thinking about moving, but I also feel a huge responsibility to make sure we end up in the right place not just for ourselves but for our future children Even if we moved somewhere that has all the right attributes, I’m still not sure I know how to make it feel like home. I might just be suffering from a chronic case of “the grass is always greener” fallacy. It’s really hard for me to tell at this point Maybe some of you have some words of wisdom you can share on the topic

People think billionaires live like kings. But, they don't realize that we are already ALL living like kings. We eat gourmet meals, have entertainment at our fingertips, watch sports for leisure, and travel to faraway lands. You are ALREADY a king, you just never knew it.

I’ve paid $0 in taxes from 2021 to 2023. But I didn't cheat. And I'm not scamming the government. The tax code favors early retirees. Here is how anyone can do it:

True wealth is not: • Big yachts. • Private planes. • Red Lamborghinis. True wealth is: • Going on a hike at 9am on Wednesday. • Seeing a movie at 12pm on Friday. • Sleeping in any day you want.

@sweatystartup The Rockies are great but IMO the Sierra are better. Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and Inyo NF are some of the most beautiful places on earth

@jayofeng Makes sense, young people are starting with a much lower NW, so as they contribute to savings their NW will increase by a greater percent than older people
