Happy International Day of Play! Play is essential to every child’s growth, learning, and well-being — laying the foundation for healthy development and a brighter future. Every child, regardless of background, ability, gender, language, culture, or behaviour, has the right to play. This right must be upheld for all children — including those living as refugees, in institutional care, or within the juvenile justice system. At Save the Children, we continue to champion the right to play by advocating for policy and law reforms, pushing for increased budget allocations, and ensuring children's voices are heard and reflected in key decision-making processes. #InternationalDayofPlay

#GenderBasedViolence breaks families, burdens economies and stalls society's progress - a cost that is far too great to ignore and a wound too deep for society to heal without action #GBVisPreventable

#KENYA: AT LEAST 97 WOMEN HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Eliud Lagat, has confirmed that at least 97 women have been killed in the last three months. The DIG said the National Police Service in Kenya is committed to investigating all femicide-related cases. Lagat acknowledged a rise in murder and manslaughter cases and called for concerted efforts to end the issue. However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has downplayed the trend, insisting that the crime wave is not gender-targeted

#WorldTeachersDay Refugee teachers are valuable assets to the education system, yet global policies often overlook them. That is why, with support from @LEGOfoundation and in partnership with @ElimuYetuC under the Teachwell Voices project we have launched crucial advocacy work to foster an enabling environment for refugee teachers in Kenya. Over the next five years, we are advocating for essential changes in policy, participation, and funding to improve the quality of teaching and the wellbeing of teachers in refugee settings. Together, let’s uplift refugee teachers and ensure they can continue making a difference. @save_children Read more: savethechildren.org.uk/blogs/2024/cel…

#Breastfeeding stimulates brain development and protects women’s health. Breastmilk acts as a baby’s first vaccine and leads to lower health care costs, healthier families. When mothers breastfeed, everyone benefits. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #TogetherForMoms

Discriminatory gender and #socialnorms present a significant barrier to achieving #genderequality and equitable development. Addressing these norms, which perpetuate inequality or limit opportunities based on gender, requires comprehensive policy and program interventions.
