@HoskinsKaren @miles_commodore Same with my dad, too. We were living at base housing in Cherrypoint, NC. He was reassigned from Cherrypoint to
a Naval Cruiser stationed out
of Norfolk,VA... he got home in time for Thanksgiving and back to his orginal duty assignment 🇺🇲
English

@miles_commodore Oh, yes, I do. We were stationed at Wheeler AFB (no joint bases, then). We didn’t see my Daddy for days. His CO called Mama and let her know he was fine and would be home, “later.”
English

@miles_commodore Aye, a successful quarantine.
Begun October 24th 1962, ended November 20th 1962.
The trade embargo or Proclamation 3447 started in Feburary '62 and is still ongoing.

@JosianeVargas15 aye, a quiet wisdom in that. Time doesn't stop for anyone, but that doesn't mean we have to sprint through it. There's a balance in there somewhere, and you captured it.
Good morning, Josiane! ☕️☕️️ Happy Sunday !

Good morning from Virginia. 🇺🇸
“No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.”
— George W. Bush (in response to the killing of Osama bin Laden, May 2011)
On this day, May 2, 2011, U.S. Navy SEALs carried out a daring raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and brought justice to Osama bin Laden — the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans.
Operation Neptune Spear marked a powerful milestone in America’s long fight against terrorism. It reminded the world that no matter how long it takes, those who attack our nation will face the full resolve of the United States and her warriors.
Today we honor the courage of our SEALs, the intelligence professionals who supported the mission, and all who have served in defense of our freedom since that terrible September day.
Never forget. 🇺🇸

@clark_kent10935 I'm reminded today of the ship formerly known as
USS Chancellorsville, later renamed USS Robert Smalls. On this date, her long service and the history behind both names come to mind, especially from the years she was stationed here at Naval Station Norfolk 🇺🇸

Good morning from Virginia. 🇺🇸
"He has lost his left arm, but I have lost my right."
— Robert E. Lee (on the wounding and amputation of Stonewall Jackson's arm at the Battle of Chancellorsville, 1863)
On this day May 2nd in 1863, during the Battle of Chancellorsville, Confederate Lt. Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson was mortally wounded by friendly fire. Hours earlier, Jackson had executed one of the most brilliant flanking maneuvers of the Civil War, smashing the Union right flank at dusk with a surprise attack that sent thousands of Federals fleeing in confusion. Around 9 p.m., while riding forward with his staff for a personal nighttime reconnaissance to press the advantage, his party was mistaken for Union cavalry by troops of Brig. Gen. James Lane’s North Carolina brigade. Two volleys rang out in the darkness; Jackson was struck by three bullets—two in his left arm and one in his right hand. His left arm was later amputated at a field hospital. He initially seemed to improve but died eight days later on May 10 from pneumonia and complications.
A deeply religious man known for his eccentric habits and unbreakable resolve, Jackson earned his “Stonewall” nickname at First Manassas and became legendary for his rapid marches and aggressive tactics. His death was a devastating blow to the Confederacy and remains one of the most poignant tragedies of America’s bloodiest conflict.
