@sidigrid @zivdotcat They’re losing money on all of these subscriptions. What should cost $1K for the Max+ plan only costs $200. The people who subscribe to these highest tier offerings are heavy users who sometimes run multiple concurrent sessions. If we’re being honest, bet on Google.

@zivdotcat The more I listen to this CEO speaking, the more I fear that Anthropic is not doing well or is bleeding far too high.. They may be looking at internal books which are extrapolating to eventual collapse of the company. CEO's usually do these in those dire situations.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: “We might be 6–12 months away from Claude completely annihilating software engineering end to end.” CS mfs are cooked!

@hrishikesshhhh @zivdotcat I use Opus 4.6 for tasks that I don’t want to do myself or that would take a long time, but I do so within a framework like SpecKit or BMAD. You almost have to do this to get decent outputs that don’t drift around or spontaneously change.

@zivdotcat Yes. Please read this university students and don’t pursue CS. As for the rest of us, we know obviously he will say that. He’s selling a solution. He will obviously say that. We need to see it for ourselves. Although, Claude OPUS is very good. Especially 4.5

@grok @js_ronin @zivdotcat I’d guess probably of an overstatement is more like 99% in this case. He’s playing to the VCs who they owe billions to already.

Anthropic hires SWEs to build and refine their AI models, infrastructure, and safety systems—tasks requiring human expertise even as AI advances. Amodei's 6-12 month prediction is optimistic, but AI timelines often slip. From diverse sources, probability of overstatement is ~50%, balancing rapid progress with historical hype. See Entrepreneur, Yahoo Finance, and Pragmatic Engineer for views.

@zivdotcat Except they’ve been saying this for a year and these models still have trouble with basic security. I do think the junior devs are getting ready to go through tough times, but it will be a few years before the senior devs, architects, devops guys, and PMs have to worry.

@nkillgore @trq212 @RhysSullivan Absolutely! If anything, more people than expected jumped on Max and each one is a net loss due to the heavy subsidies. But instead of admitting this, they cook up a convoluted story and one of the dumbest analogies I’ve ever read. It’s poor behavior for a business partner.

@warpedgeoid @trq212 @RhysSullivan TBF, I just read this morning that they have 300k business customers, so I'm not sure it matters that much if a few high utilization consumers are upset. I think the situation was handled extremely poorly, and they gave competitors an opening to look good.

dumb question on the claude max situtation: what does it matter what harness you use, you're paying for an amount of usage in that time - if the harness is poorly implemented w/ bad cache tokens you'll just use your usage faster so why do they care what you use

@The1RobReynolds @jacecraftmiller This is a very complex topic that requires coordination between many organizations and agencies; massive cloud infrastructures; 5+ different kinds of engineer. It’s extremely complicated and failures with 500V/500A can be dangerous and destructive.

Tesla has to be broke. What other reasons are there for stopping the SuperCharger rollout? Maybe I’m completely off. Someone help me understand.

@CaseykinNC @jacecraftmiller My guess - based off 2 months BEV ownership - Supercharging is extremely expensive in terms of time and money. At 50~60c pKW, it can be more expensive than gas. Once the 1~2 yr free super charging expires, people stop using them.

Confirmed - @Tesla @elonmusk has let our entire charging org go. What this means for the charging network, NACS, and all the exciting work we were doing across the industry, I don't yet know. What a wild ride it has been.

@georgebell @willjameson @Tesla @elonmusk Lately, Elon has been the textbook example of why things end up regulated by the government. Some of these snap decisions can have widespread implications for many consumers and an entire industry.

If you’re wondering why people don’t want to buy teslas - the business continuity and certainty is at an all time low…the ceo can wake up and sell the entire charging network off, or stop building replacement parts, or doing updates or even scrap the repair shops…the ecosystem is at the whim of one man, who seems to be sometimes on drugs that make him do crazy things..

The axiomatic error undermining much of Western Civilization is “weak makes right”. If someone accepts, explicitly or implicitly, that the oppressed are always the good guys, then the natural conclusion is that the strong are the bad guys.

This is it folks: sideloading is coming to iOS (at least for our EU friends), and maybe full-blown 3rd party app stores too As someone who’s been running a 3rd party app store for past few years...this will greatly affect me 🤪 So perhaps unsurprisingly, I have some thoughts 🧵
Mark Gurman@markgurman

New story: Apple is preparing to allow alternative app stores and side-loading on iOS — along with a slew of other changes to make the iPhone more open — in response to new European Union requirements arriving in 2024. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
