@PeterDClack Fossil fuel energy produces billions of tons of waste laced with heavily metals on loop but you’re worried about a tens of million tons of inert RE waste. What’s the alternative?

On January 1, 2026, the European wind industry implemented a self-imposed landfill ban on turbine blades. This has left many countries scrambling silently for solutions. Landfill has become the next unwanted crisis, yet it's the conversation no one wants to have. Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands have banned blade landfills, and so for a time they are being exported to countries like the UK or France, where they can still be buried. Banning waste like turbine blades doesn't make it vanish though—it just puts it on a truck to a neighbour's backyard. Low-scale solutions are often cited as the answer, like turning blades into noise barriers, bridges or playground equipment. How do you turn 43 million tons of blade waste from turbines into park benches and koala crossings? How many park benches does one planet actually need? Modern recycling for glass and carbon fibre often requires pyrolysis (high-heat chemical decomposition). To recycle a 'green' blade, you must burn an immense amount of energy to break down the resins. We are trading a physical waste problem for a new energy demand problem. People love a quirky solution that highlights the absurdity of the problem—like the image of a massive 80-metre blade being used as a single, very long bus shelter. Even 'green' solutions have a physical footprint that can't be wished away by a spreadsheet.

The draft 2026/27 Budget and Integrated Development Plan mark the next phase of Our work. These maintain a fully funded, cash-backed position while increasing capital investment from R2,8 billion to R3,5 billion, a R700 million increase, or 25%. This is a deliberate shift toward infrastructure-led growth and long-term sustainability. At the same time, we are reducing reliance on outsourced services and strengthening internal capacity: • Water tanker services have been reduced by 79% • Security services have been reduced by 17% • Overall contracted services have been reduced by 4,4% These savings are being redirected into infrastructure, maintenance and building a capable state. #TshwaneSoCA @CityTshwane

@RyanCoetzee Dada Morero, David Mahlobo and others arrived at the Emmarentia protest yesterday in a phalanx of black BMWs, bodyguards and staff. Morero mumbled some excuses, Mahlobo asked one protestor “Do you know who I am?”

1/ KwaZulu-Natal sits on some of the best land in South Africa - yet it has some of the poorest people. That’s not a mystery. It’s the system. 🧵

@womenforchange5 Heartbreaking. Our beautiful people should have so much better. Crime and corruption has taken it all away. When will we all vote the change we need? It feels close.

Xabiso Pearl Kambi, 20, was shot and killed by three unknown men in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, on 31 December 2025. It is alleged that Xabiso was working at her family’s shop when three men approached her in an attempt to rob her of a money bag she was holding. They reportedly shot her multiple times before fleeing the scene. Xabiso was declared dead at the scene. No one has been arrested yet. We are heartbroken by the loss of yet another beautiful soul. When is enough, enough? #WomenForChange #UnburyTheTruth

BREAKING: SAPS deployment has declined 15% in Cape Town! ⬇️🚨 There are roughly 1300 fewer SAPS officers in Cape Town today than 4 years ago. Over the same period, we’ve grown Metro Police and Law Enforcement deployment by 1263 new officers. ✅ We also now have more operational vehicles than SAPS. We are ready to help fight gun and drug crime with more policing powers.

Holy shlit .@netflix appears to openly boasts about discriminating against White people. In their inclusion & diversity report, they celebrate that the percentage of racially underrepresented directors and lead characters has been growing significantly over the past few years. Why doesn’t netflix hire based on qualifications instead of skin color??

THE EKURHULENI REVOLUTION 🔥 On 11 April 2024, after the chaos & destruction of the EFF, Nkosindiphile Xhaka was elected Mayor of Ekurhuleni. He inherited a bankrupt municipality, looted dry by tender mafias, and an allegedly pro EFF City Manager. It was a poisoned chalice but he didn’t flinch. With a brilliant CFO, Kagiso Lerutla, by his side, the mayor began an all out clean-up: suspending dozens implicated in corruption, stabilising finances, and fighting the shadow networks that kill to protect tenders. The turning point? On 29 May 2025, the allegedly compromised City Manager Imogen Mashazi was finally placed on special leave until her compulsory retirement on 1 August 2025. A decision taken by council. With her gone, Lerutla was appointed Acting City Manager, giving Xhaka the space to rebuild. The results speak for themselves: ✅ R1 BILLION + back in the bank (from empty coffers under the EFF). ✅ Ratings agencies upgrading Ekurhuleni. ✅ The ONLY metro in SA rated “Good” by the Auditor-General on BOTH financials & performance. Make no mistake: water, zama zamas illegal connections and a few other issues are still massive challenges. But from the ashes of collapse, green shoots are emerging. The mayor has already started the battles against this. No media campaigns. No PR stunts. Just work. Just governance. Just delivery. Even if you don’t support the ANC, we all want South Africa to work and we should all support leaders like this. Remember the name: MAYOR NKOSINDIPHILE XHAKA. Quietly leading one of the most dramatic municipal turnarounds in Democratic South Africa. @nkosindiphile_x
