In Obsession, the story isn’t saying “women can’t make men happy” or anything like that. It’s actually about obsession, control, and the illusion of wish-fulfillment. The “wish” element in the film isn’t framed as a solution to emotional problems, it’s a narrative device that shows: how desire can distort relationships, how trying to “force” happiness backfires, and how unhealthy attachment leads to harm for everyone involved. So the moral is closer to: You can’t manufacture love or emotional stability through control or shortcuts. Not: one gender can or can’t make another happy. The movie is really about psychological breakdown and consequences of obsession, not a statement about men vs women.

I see a movie where different types of obsession exist. Nikki is obsessed with attention. She gets her physical needs from Ian and her emotional needs from Bear. Bear is obsessed with Nikki and Cesar as a cure for his loneliness. Ian is obsessed with himself. Full-blown narcissism. The “wish” magnifies everyone’s obsession to its bitter end.

People don’t understand that two people mainly a guy and a girl can’t just have a platonic relationship. I’ve seen this movie 3 times already and she never gave the impression that she was using bear or was co dependent on him. Plus she was actually nudging him about how sarah felt about him even asking him what does he think about her, implying that sarah had feelings for him. That doesn’t sound like someone who wanted him to follow her around like a lost puppy and wanted to keep him around for validation. If she wanted that then she wouldn’t have brought up Sarah at all. It’s wild from this take and the whole “cat theory” some people COMPLETELY missed the point in this movie. Maybe they need to watch it again to fully understand the characters and their respective motivations.

Y'all know before the curse completely took over her mind and body, Nikki actually enjoyed the validation she was getting from Bear in #obsession right?? In the first half of the film, she was constantly using Bear to make Ian jealous after their fights. She loved having an anxious, desperate guy constantly orbiting her like a lost puppy to boost her ego when her actual relationship was failing. She played with his emotions for weeks, completely blind to how dangerous his fixation was becoming. Very true that she obviously didn't deserve the horror of the One Wish Willow...
