Today's the day. Toronto’s biggest park in a generation is 10 acres bigger, and it’s now yours to explore. This extends the park's walking, paddling and cycling routes while introducing new spaces for recreation, culture, and gathering along Toronto's waterfront. Biidaasige Park is the culmination of a historic flood protection effort, a tri-government partnership with support from project team members and members of the public. This milestone reflects the work of many people who helped envision, plan, design, and build this new destination. Toronto's biggest new park to open in a generation has officially gotten bigger. Today, Waterfront Toronto, Government of Canada, @ongov, @cityoftoronto, @mcfirstnation, the Lassonde Art Trail Foundation, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc, Ellis Don, @_CreateTO, @TOPortAuthority, and @TRCA_HQ, along with the Honourable @juliedabrusin, Federal Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature and Member of Parliament for Toronto – Danforth, Member of Parliament Chi Nguyen (Spadina—Harbourfront), Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure @ToddJMcCarthy, Toronto Mayor @MayorOliviaChow, and Councillor @PaulaFletcherTO (Toronto-Danforth) gathered on Ookwemin Minising to celebrate the next chapter of Biidaasige Park. With 10 new acres of parkland opening this weekend, Biidaasige Park now spans 60 acres. This is the culmination of a historic flood protection effort, a tri-government partnership with support from project team members and members of the public. One of North America’s biggest infrastructure projects is also creating one of its most exciting new public spaces. Located on Ookwemin Minising, Biidaasige Park is part of a historic tri-government investment in flood protection —an unprecedented initiative that is reshaping Toronto's eastern waterfront. This partnership between the @PrivyCouncilCA, @ONgov, and the @cityoftoronto safeguards 174 hectares (430 acres) from extreme flooding, making space for new communities. This weekend, another 10 acres of Biidaasige Park will open, including a new section of the Lassonde Art Trail, Canoe Cove, a pebble landing and paddling course, and an event space with one-of-a-kind views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline. Last week, Deputy Mayor @ausmalik, @torontolibrary and Waterfront Toronto announced a new TPL branch at Quayside, providing a vital community hub for a rapidly growing neighbourhood. This will be TPL's 102nd branch and the first on Toronto's waterfront. The branch builds on more than a decade of planning to bring library services to the eastern waterfront, and it shows what partners can deliver when they work together toward complete communities: not just homes, but the services and amenities that make a neighbourhood work.
