A major step forward for the Catholic Church: The results of Study Group #9 from the @Synod_va have been released, on "emerging doctrinal, pastoral, and ethical issues." (NB: the word "emerging" replaces the original term "controversial.") The report includes the testimony of two LGBTQ Catholics. As far as I know, this is the first time that such detailed stories of LGBTQ people have been included in an official Vatican report. (At the very least, it's extremely rare.) These testimonies are described by the Study Group as "cases in listening," which aided their discernment. One testimony is from a person in the USA, the other from a person in Portugal. Both speak movingly about their relationships with God, Jesus and the church, as well as the pain that they have experienced in response to how they have sometimes been treated by the church. Listening in this way to LGBTQ people is a major step forward for the Catholic Church. The entire report, "Theological criteria and synodal methodologies for shared discernment of emerging doctrinal, pastoral, and ethical issues," is here: synod.va/en/the-synodal…

My parish priest enjoys spraying the congregation with holy water, so this priest knows exactly what he's doing! She's been thoroughly blessed and maybe even baptized. 😂❤️

Hand Missal History Project
In a follow-up article, the Cleveland Press collected a “flood” of feedback from lay Catholics (and some priests) which reinforced this message Many Catholics placed “most of the blame” on the liturgical changes which began in 1964

@oublinkerbro Ordinary Novus Ordo parish with its ordinary ad orientem Novus Ordo Mass with its ordinary kneelers to compensate for demolished altar rails and its ordinary "powerful" homily. If Fr. Pagliarini only realized what happens in ordinary parishes, I'm sure he would have kept silent.

@janeway529 @RichRaho @CCharitiesUSA Normal Catholics refusing to give their money to Catholic Charities USA might not indicate any lack of generosity, but regardless it would seem to indicate that Catholic Charities USA is not a charity.

Pope Leo to @CCharitiesUSA: “As was the case with the Apostles and with the early Church, the proclamation of the Gospel through caring for the poor and for those most in need will always present certain difficulties on both the personal and the institutional levels. These include finding sufficient resources, demonstrating to others that this type of service is an integral part of authentic Christian living, and not giving way to discouragement, particularly when we meet those whom we cannot help in the way that we would like.  I am fully aware that the Catholic Charities agencies in the United States of America are by no means immune from these challenges that continue to manifest themselves in our own day.” vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

@TrumpsHurricane I would prefer the pope to spend more time in his chapel and at his desk. It would save money and reduce his carbon footprint, if such things matter.

👎Francis and 👎Leo XIV: A Duality of Standards Bishop Strickland, Francis, Leo XIV, and the German bishops: what emerges is a striking duality of standards. Francis showed little tolerance for personal criticism directed at himself, yet he consistently tolerated, and at times overlooked attacks made by others against the Catholic Church’s doctrine and moral teaching. This imbalance created a climate in which fidelity was scrutinized more harshly than dissent. The case of Bishop Strickland illustrates this clearly. He was disciplined, not for undermining the Church, but for defending its traditional teachings. In contrast, Leo XIV was complicit in the treatment he received, reinforcing the same pattern rather than correcting it. Meanwhile, the German bishops have acted with remarkable freedom, advancing positions openly at odds with established Catholic doctrine. Yet neither Francis nor Leo XIV has imposed meaningful consequences on them. No comparable discipline, no decisive correction. Thus, a contrast becomes evident: firmness toward those perceived as “too traditional,” leniency toward those pushing doctrinal boundaries. This dual standard raises serious questions about governance, justice, and the consistency of authority within the Catholic Church.

@AuditeInsulae In what diocese is your parish? What percentage of Catholics in your diocese bother to attend Sunday Mass, much less pray the Rosary? Why is it that two of your children are so unusual among Catholics in your diocese?

Head of the SSPX Fr Pagliarani said “...in an ordinary parish, the faithful no longer find the means necessary to ensure their eternal salvation." He says those at 'ordinary' parishes are not Catholics. How is this compatible with real experience? Two of my children praying the Rosary before N.O. Mass today

@PopeDefendersX A post in need of a Community Note. This issue was resolved 30 years ago by the Ecclesia Dei Commission, which expressly stated that SSPX Masses do fulfill one's Sunday obligation and that even a small financial contribution during the offertory is totally fine.

@complicitclergy Why isn't purging homosexual bishops and priests from the Archdiocese included as part of the settlement? The normal Catholics who are being forced to bankroll the malfeasance of our homosexual clergy should demand as much as a requirement for any continued financial support.

@FrDaveNix Obviously, the Latin Mass is necessary, but not sufficient. I don't know anyone who believes the Latin Mass alone is sufficient. And certainly not Gay Ad Orientem Liturgies.

Here's Fr. James Martin SJ offering "Mass ad orientem" at a traditional chapel in St. Mary Major in Rome. Do you see why I keep saying we need to get the faith down before the liturgy?
James Martin, SJ@JamesMartinSJ

Happy 5th anniversary to @OutrchCatholic, the LGBTQ Catholic ministry of @americamag, of which I'm happy to be a part. One highlight was our Sept. pilgrimage to Rome for the Jubilee, including a very warm Mass at a chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore, and my first Mass "ad orientum."

@FrStephenImb Is Bishop Menjivar-Ayala the best choice to serve the Diocese of West Virginia or is he merely a Leftist political tool the Pope has deployed in cahoots with anti-Catholic strategist David Axelrod? The fact that the question needs to be asked (and it does!) is very disturbing.

@smithpatrick08 Remarkable how at Novus Ordo Catholic social events meat is usually served and has been for many years. Not just on the parish level. Diocesan, Knights of Columbus conferences, etc.

The practical abolition of Friday abstinence was as destructive to the Church as any liturgical change. I cannot tell you how many times people of a certain age have wistfully remembered the time when they had to eat fish on Fridays.
Iacobus Novus@SeamusNua

It's even more than that. Not just the liturgy changed; Friday abstinence changed. Lenten fasting changed. Cultures changed. As a priest once told my father, "that's not a sin anymore." You can say those are changeable and contraception not, but M. Walther put it well:
