I think this is more like a design-by-subscription setup. The “most popular” guy usually isn’t the one actually working on every deliverable, it’s just not scalable if they’re managing multiple clients at $5k/month. What typically happens is that you’re paying for the brand name, but the actual work is delegated to juniors or a small team behind the scenes. So you often see slow iterations, mistakes or work that doesn’t match the hype, as you’re not really hiring that one person, you’re hiring their system

We hired the most popular “design guy” on X for $5k/month. He spent a week on our logo. Our company name has 4 letters and he made a typo in it. Simple iterations took days and didn’t improve at all. We cancelled immediately. That one logo (still not sure we’ll use) cost us $1,250. I can’t see him finishing the entire app in one month. What a waste of time and money.

A designer writing code is great. But a designer replaced by code?... That’s like skipping blueprints because you own a nail gun.

Saw a UX/UI job post today. It started normal - “strong UX skills, 4+ yrs experience…” Then came this: “Use AI tools (like Copilot) to create UI components as code, skipping Figma.” And that’s when I paused. 🧵↓
