Ever wondered what actually happens when you turn on a VPN 🧐? I mapped out a VPN architecture from the client to the exit server, focusing on how data, IPs, and encryption flow across the network. What’s happening under the hood: - Your device creates a secure tunnel using a secret + public/private key cryptography. - Your real IP never travels in plain text — it’s wrapped inside encrypted packets. ISPs (even government-controlled routers) can only see encrypted noise, not destinations. - Traffic exits through a country-level VPN server, which then talks to the internet on your behalf. - The destination server only sees the VPN’s IP, not yours. Why this matters for developers: - Helps understand network privacy, zero-trust models, and tunneling - Useful when designing secure APIs, Web3 infra, privacy-first apps - Makes concepts like IP masking, encryption layers, and routing tangible This diagram helped me connect the dots between: cryptography + networking + real-world internet routing If you’re building anything that cares about privacy, security, or decentralized infra, understanding this flow is a superpower.
