Can the ketogenic diet help improve symptoms for individuals living with treatment-resistant depression? In this conversation, @bschermd sits down with @DrMegKirkChang, a senior researcher in metabolic psychiatry at the University of Oxford and a co-author of the recently published DIME trial. This study represents the first randomized clinical trial to evaluate a ketogenic diet in adults with treatment-resistant depression. Participants were assigned to either a ketogenic diet or a plant-rich comparison diet for six weeks to assess whether dietary intervention could influence depressive symptoms. Both groups experienced meaningful improvements in depression scores, with the ketogenic diet slightly outperforming the control group at 6 weeks. While the difference between groups did not reach the threshold for statistical significance, the findings suggest a positive signal that warrants further investigation.

➡️ youtu.be/ci2mdjkxLCY #Ernährungstipps #Gesundheit

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (#ADPKD) is the most common inherited cause of kidney failure worldwide. In vitro fertilization (#IVF) with preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders (#PGTM) allows impacted families to stop the disease from being passed on. We proudly provide grant funding to qualified families to help offset costs associated with these life-changing procedures. You may have seen headlines or social media posts claiming that ketones increase the risk of heart attacks and that this proves ketogenic diets are dangerous for heart health. But when you actually examine the study behind those claims, the data tell a very different story. In this video, @bschermd takes a closer look at a recent paper published in the Journal of the American Heart Association that analyzed circulating ketone levels in participants from the UK Biobank. The study has been widely shared online as evidence against ketogenic diets. The issue? The participants weren’t following a ketogenic diet at all. Instead, researchers measured very small baseline ketone levels in a general population that was consuming around 250 grams of carbohydrates per day, that’s far from the levels associated with nutritional ketosis.

Thank you @PKD_Int for raising awareness that access to expensive drugs for PKD may be limited (or non-existent) in many countries. That's one important reason to consider nutritional interventions that may be even more effective and inexpensive (or free). ...and safer.

Nutrition policy has long prioritized carbs. As CMH advisor Dr. Jeff Volek writes in the Ohio Capital Journal, new dietary guidelines turn that advice on its head. But he warns that important caveats apply to the protein and saturated fat recommendations: ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/03/06/the…

Fatty liver disease is now one of the fastest-growing liver conditions in the world, affecting roughly 30% of adults and an increasing number of children. And in many cases, it’s driven by metabolic dysfunction and insulin resistance. In this conversation, @bschermd speaks with @AmyMGoss (University of Alabama at Birmingham) and Dr. Karen Jerome-Zapadka (Trajectory Health Partners) about the growing epidemic of metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and why carbohydrate restriction and ketogenic nutrition may be powerful tools for addressing it.

Interim Clinical Trial Results Show Significant Efficacy of KetoCitra® in Combination With Nutritional Changes in Autosomal-Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease Interim results from a controlled clinical trial presented at ASN offer evidence for metabolic therapy in ADPKD. The study, led by Juntendo University in Tokyo, tracked the efficacy of KetoCitra® as part of the Ren-Nu™ ketogenic nutrition program. Key Findings at 3 Months: -Clinically Meaningful Kidney Volume Decline: Subjects in the intervention group experienced a statistically significant 5.01% reduction in Total Kidney Volume (TKV). During the same period, the control group’s kidneys grew by 8.03% -Renal Function Stability: The intervention group showed a stabilization of eGFR (+0.59 ml/min/1.73 m²), while the control group continued to show a decline (-1.57 ml/min/1.73 m²). -High Tolerability and Adherence: The study reported a 100% adherence rate, with zero participants discontinuing. The Mechanism: Targeting the metabolic vulnerability of cystic cells (glucose dependency) via nutritional ketosis, supported by the exogenous ketone BHB and alkaline citrate to normalize urinary pH. Conclusion: A non-pharmacological approach that is clinically safe, effective and feasible for patients. santabarbaranutrients.com/blogs/news/int…
