These are always good, but this is especially good. I was a teenager in the 70s, studying psychology in the 80s. Plenty of gender non conformity yet trans was not a thing. We all knew Boy George was a man and so did he.

I'd hold the same respect if I had any trans clients - which were rare tbh. But I'd have no problem with preferred pronouns. Despite my beliefs.

The point is about claiming your participation IN their beliefs or the validation of it is required to show respect. Observing and offering non-religious specific condolences isn't validating their beliefs.

When someone gets comfort from eg believing their late partner is in heaven with God I never felt any need to say "There is no God."

Take a bereaved Christian person for example. If their belief brings them comfort then you go along with it out of respect rather than say gods not real
