Inconnu (sheefish) are a vital food source for Indigenous and rural people in Northwest Alaska. How are the fish's movements being impacted by #ClimateChange? Right now, Kevin Fraley and @ArcticWCS are placing satellite tags on the fish to find out.

Arctic permafrost regions saw rapid industrialization over the last century. While infrastructure risks from thawing permafrost are known, much less so are contamination risks from industrial legacies at thousands of sites on the verge of permafrost thaw:

Dr. Sveta Steufer @WaterSnowIce2 and a portion of the #SnowEx2023 field crew arrived in @Toolik last night. It was +40F when they arrived! Wonder how often it is that warm on the Slope in early March?

Seeing glaciers shrink over time is dramatic & visibly apparent. What about how glacial melt/loss affects watershed geochemistry? In her first peer-reviewed lead author paper Tiffany Gatesman addresses this in the Jarvis Creek watershed of Alaska.

WERC student-led research shows water treatment in rural Alaska uses 12-26x more energy than the US average which translates to close to 100x more in cost to rural Alaskans. Lets work on solutions! pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.102…
