@DevinOlsenn Well that’s disappointing. If it can track my eyes, I never get forced to touch the steering. I hope this isn’t a thing now.

@wescald2 She ended up having to let go of her coffee and touch the wheel.. it was pulsing blue so I think it would have given a strike if she didn't

Agreed. But to get a good 1% you need a lot miles. Especially in a variety of environments and conditions. Things like, events leading up to and including accidents, rough disengagements, etc require a lot of miles to record. It also then helps pass/fail models in shadow mode. I also think I’ve reached my limit of being an “expert” here. Haha

Tesla is accepting a lot of data. They're like using 1% of what they use. I think everyone assumes they just feed everything into this massive funnel and out comes a model. They have a huge selection process where they filter it down significantly. In fact they often use FAKE (synthetic) data to train the model. They also have professional drivers that they more heavily weight the models on. At the end of the entire process, very few actual drives from the public are used relative to what people think.

@ChadMoran To be clear, I’m not just trying to argue Tesla is awesome and everything else sucks haha I’m trying to be objective. Even though my experience and knowledge is heavily biased towards Tesla.

@wescald2 The real value is the lessons they learned. I bet if Tesla lost all of their data, they could retrain the model in 6-12 months. Anyone who works in AI will tell you what you started with isn't what's valuable now.

I live in north Houston, where if you aren’t driving in mad max mode you’re a safety hazard. I have found that I can flip between standard and max max to achieve most of my desired profiles. Before v14, 90% of my disengagements were because it wasn’t changing lanes fast enough or driving aggressive enough. I am not sure how Tesla plans to solve this where no user input is required.

100% this. One of my biggest pet peeves right now is the unpredictability of speed. People love to use safety as a reason for FSD. You know what's safe? Being predictable. You know what FSD isn't? Predictable. I live in an area with a lot of 50 -> 35, 40 -> 25s. It will handle these very poorly. On Standard it was doing 39 in a 25. Then, in a 50 abruptly dropped to 25 and I still have no idea why. Turning, traffic control, pedestrian avoidance all excellent, near perfect. Speed? It's a guessing game.
JS@JSX423

I am going to be blunt.. the speed profiles ruin FSD and I would not recommend FSD to anyone with the current implementation of speed control. And I think it is driving absolutely amazing - better than it ever has and better that I then I ever thought it would drive. But without precise control of speed, and being 100% responsible of the vehicle, it's borderline at times, useless.

@ChadMoran Yeah my wife’s model x is still on fsd13 and it curb rashed the heck out of the passenger rear rim making a turn onto the feeder. She was not happy with me, because she was telling me the car is too close and I told her it would be fine. Haha

Well in the roundabout it was over the line. It was an oblong shaped roundabout and it cut it short and almost hit a car. I don’t know if it would have but given I was out of my lane I didn’t feel safe letting it go. When parking? Close enjoy for the STOP to appear and I spoke see light. I’ll check my security cam tomorrow.

Holy cow, 25 miles of driving and I had maybe 10 disengagements with FSD 14.1.2.25 (Tesla, can we not with these version numbers). Mostly navigation. 1. Tried to navigate BEHIND a grocery store 2. Got into turn only lane when going straight 2x 3. Tried to turn left out of a parking because it thought I was on the road next to it 4. Poor lane discipline going through a two lane roundabout 5. Almost hit my Dune R1S while parking 🙈 Other ones were small things but it would have caused problems for other motorists around me.

@ChadMoran Not saying it’s valid, but I think a lot of the defensiveness is a result of people just bashing Tesla because of musk and not legitimate issues with Tesla. But I think reporting actual issues shouldn’t be a bad thing.

@wescald2 I don’t know why people feel like it’s a personal attack. I love my Y and FSD but some of these were pretty bad.

@ChadMoran Dang, it sucks you have to add this, us tesla fans need to chill out. This drove me nuts when I wanted to use Google pixel phones and everyone with an apple freaked out about green messages. People get weird about their ecosystem.

@SawyerMerritt Stopping completely at stop signs is going to make everyone in my surroundings hate me. It feels like an eternity when everyone is looking and wondering when you are going to go.

@DavidMoss That is mind blowing to me. You’ve definitely motivated me to step up my game. You need to push Tesla to add the ability to stream this stat to your X account in real time.

I have now passed 6,000 consecutive miles of non rounded up actual true 100% intervention free FSD 14.2 driving in my 2025 Model 3 Premium Longe Range RWD This journey has taken me to 17 states starting from Raleigh, NC to now currently I’m in Ashland, OR with 59 Tesla Supercharger stops along the way. How long do you think I can keep this streak going!??

Yeah. I’m guilty of this too. But in reality I’m mostly responding to comments of people who know nothing about teslas/ev’s. But I definitely don’t think everyone should love teslas. I plan to go test drive a rivian truck too. My arguments are generally more about EVs in general. Im trying to be part of the solution and not the problem here haha.

Why are Tesla owners so absolutely insufferable. Is it a prerequisite? Me: “I like my truck” Them: “Mine is better” They spend more time on social media posturing about their purchase than enjoying their vehicle.

Yeah, but it’s these people that fill the news feeds. So the first set of posts I saw about the event were posts like this. Which I think these people did rivian more harm than good. Because I think a lot of people immediately dismiss it like I did instead of actually doing research on. Which I will now do.

Isn’t it odd that some of the biggest Tesla accounts on X who would never ever even consider buying a @Rivian are posting non-stop negativity about the Autonomy/AI event? If they think it’s bad or not for them, then why the obsession with Rivian? 🤔
Rivian@Rivian

More than any other feature, our owners have asked for more hands-free miles. With Universal Hands-Free, you can now enjoy hands-free assisted driving on any road with clearly defined lanes. That’s roughly 3.5 million miles in the U.S. and Canada. Look for it in our next software update.

I would buy my wife a rivian to replace her X in heart beat if I knew it could self drive like the Tesla can. I’m genuinely asking, is the hype saying that the new rivians will actually get anywhere close to Tesla? Or is it just a huge step closer? I’m a Tesla fan, and my rivian issues came from all the hate on teslas vision approach not because I actually have an opinion on it

Yeah, it’s like Waymo argues the lidar provides redundancy, but from my research, it seems that the cameras and lidar and both required so when one fails, the entire system fails. Or does the AI system train on both individually? And if so, one is the primary? But to clarify, i do think Waymo still has done a pretty good business model for their taxi service.

@ZacksJerryRig @RivianTrackr take away the wheels - all cars fail - now we have to walk everywhere LiDAR emits its own light, then sensors read it. Kinda like how headlights emit light, then cameras read it.

I slept on yesterday and I’m just not fully sold on LiDAR. After seeing the demos Rivian did (attached), I just don’t see enough of a benefit. Thoughts?
