If I could short just the robotaxi part of Tesla, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Tesla has long marketed Autopilot and FSD, which are no such thing. Decades after it was “almost done.” I don’t see a true driverless Tesla robotaxi for at least five years, if past is prologue. Getting exceptions to FMVSS isn’t easy, which is why Waymo’s ojai still has controls (steering wheel, etc) that aren’t used. In the markey hearing, Waymo got a lot of attention (rightly). But if you listen longer, they really trash the Tesla guy. He couldn’t say much because there is nothing much to say. Tesla can (and has) made a lot of claims in speeches and marketing. You can’t do that if you’re under oath in front of congress. No “forward looking statements” escape hatch there. (For the Tesla fanbois ready to jump on me: I own and drive a Tesla.)
