@USAA_help I've been seeing "Our system is currently unavailable." When I try to login on the website for the past few days. Is it just me? I'm currently abroad so hard to call for help.

@Cron I've been having trouble with NYC timezone since daylight savings switched on Sunday. When I set NYC as the primary timezone, it shows up as EDT with correct times, if I slide it to secondary timezone it switches itself to EST. Problem persists after a restart

@JasnTru This was my first earthquake in Japan (ok ever actually) and I had no reference point for if it was big or small so my first thought was to check if you tweeted about it.

I thought I felt a little earthquake and then a big one came a few seconds later

@Cheesemeister3k Do you have tips if I wasn’t smart enough to remove my middle name from my passport but am moving to Japan Sunday? Is it too late to try to get all my ids and what not with no middle name?

Pro-tip: if you ever plan on moving to Japan, don’t put your middle name on your passport. Don’t put it on any form. Pretend it doesn’t exist.

@JasnTru But I’m going to try replacing the coding question and see what happens. We teach all new joiners scala anyway (so they all have a ramp up phase), and I just admitted that the coding screen is redundant since anyone who does well on the other interviews finds it easy.

@JasnTru I would say we have kept the coding bit so far because anyone who does well on the problem solving/data reasoning question finds the coding question utterly simple. But I’ll also admit to fearing that candidates won’t take us seriously if we don’t ask them to show code

People still keep repeating anecdotes about "this one senior developer who couldn't code" that sound suspiciously like the DailyWTF "Paula Bean" story, and nobody interrogates their onboarding process, collaboration dynamic, or project management practices.

@JasnTru Well my mind is blown. I only know Ootoya from NYC and the last time I went it was for a team meal with our CEO. We wanted a fancy lunch. I honestly felt like it WAS a fancy lunch.

"Oh, sure, I'll just have a quick casual $45 lunch at Otoya" seems really hard to imagine, even given the rapid price spikes in the US over the last 5 years.

I wince whenever I see Japanese chain restaurants try to expand their brand in the US, which was often originally built on "good value" and excellent supply chain control. They end up at high price points & often worse quality control, competing with special occasion joints.

@JasnTru Success. The mobile app was happy to send a code to my email. Thanks! Although, this is just another example of banks convincing me that they have some of the worst security.

@whatupnature The mobile app somehow let me log in, and I could change my international phone number there (a complicating factor was a phone number change in Japan; they only had the old one on file)

OK, my US credit card suddenly stopped supporting email 2FA, and broke Google Voice 2FA, meaning I'm stranded. Fuck you, Chase

I just deleted all my tweets that were more than about a month old and I’m feeling pretty good about this decision. Hard to imagine anything good coming of anyone today looking back on a thought I had in 2009.

@worstell Hahahaha that won’t be a problem at all. I can easily be disqualified for anything I say at the time.

@bcrussett, how much do you think this impacts the discussion we had about reduced engagement on Instagram?

I’ve been trying to convince my team that not only is it ok to work fewer better hours, but it I’m happier and the team is better off when they do. David nailed it and I want to steal some ideas from his writing approach as well. Let’s see if the team listens to him.

Yes that was a tweet so that I could get an invite. I guess I could feel bad for “shilling” for them… but if it’s an app I want to try maybe it should be on your radar too.
