@dhh @neilquinn Isn't this comparison a little unfair? Intel 358H is a 16-core chip with a 65-80W TDP. M5 is a 10-core chip that maxes out at around 25W. I'd compare it to M5 Pro. The M5 Pro (18-core, ~45W) scores around 29000 multi-core. But still.. nice to see Intel showing effort again.

Panther Lake is a real turning point for Intel. I've been on AMD since switching to Linux, but with 18A delivering Gelsinger's dream from 2021, it's a privilege to run blue again on the laptop side. And Intel working directly to get the most out of it on Omarchy is just 🌟.

@dhh Happy to provide Intel-power for #Omarchy! ⚡

I think the funniest recent interaction was standing in line for coffee in SF and someone stops and goes "WAIT. WAIT HERE." (no other context yet). I'm in line so I'm not going anywhere. He runs back with his open laptop to show me Ghostty riced the fuck out. It was beautiful.

@JillFilipovic They should just do a followup ad with a few other models/celebs that aren’t white, and label it: Good genes, whatever the color. (And people would still be offended because some people will be offended no matter what)

Are genetics and the concept of "good genes" a cornerstone of eugenics? Yes! Does that mean any reference to having "good genes" is covert Nazism? No. "All my grandparents lived past 90" / "oh wow those are some good genes" is a pretty representative way of talking about "good genes." Or: "My mother didn't get a single wrinkle until she was 50" / "oh wow those are good genes" etc.

I'm sorry but this is insane? "Good genes" is a pretty common phrase, used to reference everything from longevity to intelligence to beauty. It's also the name of a lactic acid I use. This ad is weird and creepy for lots of reasons but I'm not sure it's Nazi propaganda guys.
Pop Crave@PopCrave

Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle campaign is receiving criticism for a “jeans/genes” pun that some say echoes eugenics and white supremacy rhetoric. Right-wing voices are celebrating the ad as a pushback against “wokeness.”

March 2020: My video exposing the Escobar Fold went live on YouTube. Turned out some guy was scamming people by sending phones to influencers, but not to buyers (youtu.be/O8FJSjy3bXA) June 2020: FBI visits the studio, collects my Escobar phone as evidence, promises they'll get back to me (youtu.be/_9prH7NFmLI) July 2025: That guy pleads guilty to fraud, faces millions in fines and 20+ years in federal prison (techspot.com/news/108761-es…)

@WoodyWJohnson @mitchellh Why not solve that in the shell itself? The ‘security’ command should give you what you need. Sprinkle some direnv on top if you want and you have something pretty nice (and it’ll work over ssh too)

The cool part of exposing this kind of automation via Shortcuts is that you get the benefit of all the built-in actions. I don't need to reinvent actions for example to move and resize windows, work with the clipboard, take screenshots, etc. Super powerful. Long term I still want Ghostty to have its own API so that you can do some subset of the automations cross-platform and invoked in other ways, but I think this is going to be an incredibly powerful feature in its own right and solve the need for a good chunk of people. For example, a highly requested feature is the ability to "save/restore layouts" (certain windows/tabs/splits running certain commands). That's trivially possible with this Shortcuts work. Although, as I said, I still want to implement that kind of stuff in a cross-platform way long term.
Mitchell Hashimoto@mitchellh

What's missing? (Serious, soliciting feedback). Even if you don't use Shortcuts, what do you wish you could automate with a terminal that isn't present here?

@GergelyOrosz I love this take. Many people will just dunk on Apple because of the 30% and call it greed. But the IAP solution is clearly lacking on a functional level and not being allowed to go outside of a poor solution is the real problem here.

Here’s one reason Apple fought tooth and nail to disallow web payments for apps: Because Apple’s IAP is bad in many ways, and *so many* apps will move to web-based payments now not mainly because of the 30% Apple fee, but because of how bad IAP is. Let me give you examples:

Builds it in less than 2 months. Other devs get excited and all of them pick up how to work with LLMs. They use Bedrock, embeddings, Postgres for embedding search and vector search. Don't forget: these devs assumed "we need an expert, surely!" But "experts" often don't know what they are doing. At least with GenAI where it's relatively new to everyone!

A good reminder why you can pick up GenAI - and you probably should. Real story: Small company, 5 devs. Last time they hired was 12 years ago. AI comes out: company wants to add AI feature. But they don't have the expertise. So hire an AI agency. Agency spend 3 months planning:

@GergelyOrosz I think Trump is an ass but what if he’s playing the long game? Ukraine needs help, Trump knows it. By causing a diplomatic crisis EU is now worried as well. He can still broker a deal later, and also claim he ‘fixed NATO’ if EU re-arms itself. Trump loooves to be the hero.

Europe has no choice but to re-arm itself, and do it fast. Ukraine’s reliable allies are the EU, UK, Norway and Canada. US - Europe alliance never looked so fragile in 80 years - esp now that the US administration treats Russia more of an ally than Ukraine. A seismic change

As someone with a podcast, I was honestly surprised to see that: 1. YouTube can get more listens than other platforms - sometimes, combined! 2. About 30% of listeners for my podcast stream it on… TV. How is that possible and who watches on TV? Feels I’m missing something
