Many don't understand that shooting another man for punching you has ALWAYS been very dicey legally, and if anything the old cases are more against it.
You probably get away with it in a best case scenario, like where you were randomly/unexpectedly attacked by a huge assailant on your way to work.
But it's always marginal at best, anything where you were beefing with someone, provoking, you are cruising for manslaughter or attempted murder charges.
It's sort of a "gun culture myth" that there is some ancient legal right to use deadly force in response to any type of physical contact.

@StJohnsShirtGuy @Empty_America Mutual combat can still apply with firearms. And you would not need to be “shielded” by stand your ground. They would both be left alone. They both fucked around, and both found out. No state intervention needed.

@Empty_America Excusing the other person from liability is understandable in a provoking case, but it is very recent to extend that all the way to removing right to self defense. This should probably fit better under mutual combat rules.

When you read really old historic cases you get into doctrines like "fighting words" actually excusing the other person from liability for assaulting you.
The "no one can touch me no matter what I say" thing is very new, our ancestors believed no such thing.

WELL I was assaulted by a schizo homeless guy today in Toronto. I was walking to the grocery store when he started stalking me. I tried to get away from him but it didn’t work. He grabbed me, pinned me against a fence, and then tried to break my hand to steal my phone. Three people passing by helped save me. The police were quick and kind, but the officer I spoke with told me this guy had been arrested for attacking people repeatedly in the past month, and “fair warning, a judge will probably let him out by tomorrow morning.” 🫠 lovely system we got goin on here folks
