“If speed ladders worked, piano players would have great fastballs.” - Boo Schexnayder Why are we still doing this type of stuff? Here is the difference in what Aiden Hutchinson’s footwork looks like in a game vs. this nonsense

Do hard things is an Adult thing: Despite what you see online… Telling kids to “do hard things” isn’t how you build resilient athletes. It’s how you make them hate movement. Because most of the time, “hard” just means being forced onto kids. Kids don’t experience “hard” the way adults do. To them, it feels like pressure… stress… failure. And when movement feels like that early on— they start to avoid it. And just because your kid doesn’t want to do your burpee broad jump challenge… doesn’t mean they’re soft. It means they’re a child not ready for adult-defined standards in any sense of the word. What actually builds resilient athletes? Not forced intensity. It’s fun… variety… and freedom to explore. Games… competition… racing… chasing… challenges… exploration. Because when kids enjoy moving, they move more. And when they move more they naturally run faster, jump higher, and build real skill. Here’s the key: Challenge should be discovered… not imposed. The best environments don’t force kids to be tough— they make kids want to try hard. Forced effort builds compliance. Chosen effort builds resilience. #LTAD

@Brandon_L_Davis We found this to be true at my facility a couple years ago. I have some theories but regardless, the results speak for themselves.

My 3rd period decided to sprint barefoot today. It was hands down the fastest day for them to date. Multiple kids tied or beat max velo PRs off a 17 yard run in. Multiple kids hit 20 MPH for the first time ever. I love barefoot tempos in grass. May just go barefoot everywhere

@CoachJBurk @CoachJacksonTPW The concept, yes. I don’t see the correlation to the game. I get the idea, but it tells me a lot about how someone operates a program and I would simply choose not to participate. As a former HFBC, not everyone agreed with my methodologies, and that was perfectly fine as well.

@whouch03 @CoachJacksonTPW So what metric being on the side of the helmet would align or be tolerated? Or is is the sticker concept itself regardless of what it represents?

Spring Ball Idea 💡 We started putting players’ squat on one side of the helmet and clean on the other (big, visible numbers). Simple change, big impact: • Players take ownership • Teammates see the work • College coaches get instant info Accountability you can see. If you want more ideas like this, join the Skool community 👇 skool.com/arena-coaching… @fastnwide

@whouch03 @CoachJacksonTPW Seems like a lot of trouble to move, go to a private school get PAP form filled out just because a coach was getting creative in motivating and “publishing a number”. What is it was a flying 10 number, of force plate data point - would the child remain enrolled?

@CaptainCons @clh_strength You are correct, it is predatory if that’s the message… Which it definitely is implied with some of these trainers/facilities. We don’t sell that nonsense in my gym. We’re here for the journey to come alongside them as an athlete for however long they continue to compete.

@clh_strength My issue isn’t with doing those exercises. He’s running around and jumping My issue is with positioning it as necessary with the unspoken message of “if you want your kid to be a good athlete he has to come do this” which I think is predatory on parents

If you put your kid in this “training” at 7yo it is nothing more than a fancy daycare At 7-14yo your kid doesn’t need training or to specialize in a sport. They need to be a kid. Play multiple sports. Play pickup sports with their friends outside. Not every waking moment needs to be scheduled for kids. If you disagree with me then go listen to all the pro athletes who say the same thing
Joey Bergles@JoeyBergles

I train kids from every sport imaginable. They all train as “athletes” If a 7-14 year old gets more athletic - they’ll get better at their sport.

@CaptainCons 2/2 To your point, they’re not doing the things they should be doing as kids. That actually is my justification for working with kids that age. I’m not perfect, but I do understand how to develop young people and we’re not doing silly things that they’re not ready for.

@CaptainCons 1/2 Couple things. I completely agree with you on what kids should and shouldn’t be doing. Secondly I agree that a lot of places are money grabs. As someone who owns a facility and starts at age 8, I never thought I would be training kids that young…

@Brandon_L_Davis Same, many of those people stating it as satire. But, I’m someone who is awake to the much deeper spiritual warfare taking place and I don’t personally believe TJT is a Christ follower. Not my place to judge and I’m not, I simply understand what’s going on via a much deeper lens

Athletes heavily loading bilateral lifts without being strong on one leg are setting themselves up for issues later. Don’t overlook unilateral strength development. Unilateral squat and hinges have to be staples.

Most programs make their athletes slower by overrunning them. Speed is not developed at moderate Intensities… It is developed in small doses at High Intensities done Frequently. You need to be comfortable doing LESS to be successful.
