@benjaminwood i'm not over there just yet, but was thinking about that little intro hangout last time.

Wow... #railsworld ticket sold out after 1 second. I clicked the button and got blocked.
😢
English

@benjaminwood welcome café breakfast next year in Amsterdam? :)

#RailsWorld was a whirlwind! While I’m happy to sleep in my own bed tonight, I’m wishing I had just a little more time with you all. 💚

Zhanargül Zhumatay disappeared in Ürümchi one year ago and has not been seen since.
State security police detained her after she "communicated with people abroad" and spoke out for the land rights of Kazakh herding communities.

@jasoncharnes i just realised that might put more pressure, so, hm, not sure what to say…

I burned out. Hard.
I'm trying to write a blog post about it, but it's a lot.
It's not programming I'm burned out on, it's the extracurricular around programming.
It's a combination of...
- Over-extending myself
- Seeking identity in my career
- Seeking validation/acceptance in the community
- Discouraged by division in the Ruby community
I hope I can find the words. I'm trying.
Nevertheless, I plan to continue making shitty puns and I hope to come out of this sharing more things I'm working on. And sharing those things from a place of being helpful, not trying to build my own identity.
I've made a lot of great friends through the last decade in this career and I'm grateful for you.

A family member told me that I "should raise the Palestinian flag if I care about the innocent children and civilians who are bombed in Gaza."
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag specifically because I care about the innocent children and civilians who are bombed in Gaza.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag because innocent children are bombed in Gaza because of Hamas.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag because this flag is weaponized to exacerbate an antisemitic agenda that I will not stand by.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag because most people who raise the Palestinian flag scream, "From the river to the sea, the Jews will be eradicated.”
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag because I care for innocent Palestinian lives, but I do not care for terrorism.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag until the majority of Palestinians collectively condemn and ex-communicate Hamas.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag until Palestinians wish to live in peace side by side with the Jews.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag because I do not have to prove my humanity and empathy to those who do not seek peace.
I will NOT raise the Palestinian flag until Palestine is free from Hamas.

@strzibnyj as a sysadmin i too would be curious what people consider the next step in terms of maintenance of a deployed app. monitoring, updating the OS, backups, disaster recovery, etc comes to mind. afaik Kamal does not cover this, right?
English

@tom_dallimore @strzibnyj @dokku kamal is a tool that deploys a piece of code towards a piece of infrastructure.
dokku is a piece of infrastructure, that also comes bundled with a toolchain to deploy code
English

@strzibnyj What's the difference between Kamal and @dokku?

@whysthatso @dhh @Hetzner_Online No it's not helping as far I can see right now... but it's still a really pleasant experience. I loved deploying Capistrano apps back in the days, so this is a great comeback I have to say 😁
English

What I love about Kamal is how it gives plain cloud hosts like Hetzner the deployment ergonomics of something like Heroku but at a sliver of the cost. Look at these instance prices! kamal-deploy.org

@Ndrs_37 @EstonianWorld it does and is generally available for sedan and station wagon types. i’ve driven a fiat punto 4wd in the italian alps and managed terrain magnitudes more difficult than Estonian countryside. this whole “big car = all access” is a sham for the lazy.
English

The Estonian fin. min. has published a bill of the upcoming car tax in the country; the registration of a brand-new Honda CRV would cost €6,365 – an astronomical amount, considering the popularity of the model and the actual necessity of it on the Estonian roads. estonianworld.com/opinion/estoni… via @estonianworld
