Sri Lanka wouldn’t have got Test status in 1981 if not for Gamini Dissanayake. He was only 39 then. He would have achieved much more if not for his untimely death in 1994. The nation lost many capable leaders due to the war.

My father worked in Oman from 1980 to early 90s in two stints. Second one was in the Oman Army (he was in the Sri Lanka Army before he retired).
Then, a huge part of their military was foreign. It seems it is still the same?

Understand this about the Saudi military: 1) It is overwhelmingly staffed by foreigners (mostly Pakis), 2) It has FAILED to achieve its strategic aims in Yemen after a decade of blasting the place apart. 3) It is primarily meant for a) limited counterterrorism and b) internal policing mission sets. AND LET US NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE OVERWHELMING UNWILLINGNESS OF SAUDIS TO GO TO WAR/STRUGGLE AGAINST THE ODDS THEY ARE FACING WITH IRAN.
