@ScrollofTruthIF @reformparty_uk Sir Mufti Hamid Patel is Interim Chair of Ofsted. Ofsted has no say in the curriculum. It is a regulatory body. The mayor of Brighton and Hove is a caucasian woman. At least report the facts. Not that it matters what colour people are.

@johncosgrove405 I don’t disagree. But I think there is something important to consider in who gets to decide on intent, interpretation and intervention in relation to Ofsted.

@wids_widdows We've been there. The so called "Big Listen," the (much better) "alternative Big Listen," a select committee enquiry... And we're left with a "police operation." (Not my words, the Mexican Minister of Education.) As long as it's about public judgement, it's irredeemable.

"MAT leader Cathie Paine," spectacularly misses the point, writing "The sector needs to change how it views Ofsted grades under the new system, rather than falling into the old trap of success or failure..." Judgements are published. How we view them is irrelevant. (continues...)
Jon Severs@jon_severs

Does the sector have a responsibility to narrate the new Ofsted grading away from the blunt judgements of the past? Interesting piece here from @cathiepaine arguing that schools have the power to define how grades are viewed. tes.com/magazine/analy…

@jon_severs @cathiepaine I think this is such an interesting question. But before querying responsibility - shouldn’t we consider whether it is even possible for the “sector” to shift the interpretation of judgements?

@johncosgrove405 Isn’t there a deeper question though? Who decides what the purpose of Ofsted is? Can tha be reshaped, by shifting the interpretation and consequences of judgements?

Ofsted exists to judge schools and by extension school leaders. It is not a school improvement tool. It judges and publishes its judgements. School leaders publicly identified as failures mean Ofsted is working exactly as intended.

"Requires Attention." Schools with high FSM are far more likely to sit under that label in the new Ofsted framework, especially the Achievement section. Daft thing is, it already has our attention. It always will. Poverty requires attention. Hunger requires attention. Trauma requires attention. A judgement that ignores all of that - and then penalises the people giving their lives to the cause? That requires attention too.

@dave_mcpartlin Ofsted's perpetual failure to properly understand all aspects of school context definitely requires attention!

I sat in the car and heard Julia talk to the press about her sister. This changed my thinking and allowed me to time. I will be eternally grateful to her for what she did during such a difficult time for them. Shame on OFSTED - until they are closed down nothing will change.

@dave_mcpartlin I watched something on Facebook from a professor who has looked at the correlation between good OFSTEDs and FSMs stating that the higher the FSM the more likely a Requires attention 🤯 this isn’t because they are not as good as the others, it’s because it’s so much harder.

@GMB You keep making reference to the Red vs Blue trend between schools on social media. Worth checking the facts? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… No incidents related to this have been reported to Met Police.

@FrankWNorris @vicgoddard “Context is related to the inspection grades”. For the sake of absolute clarity - this suggests that context is NOT being ‘taken into account’ by inspectors when relating performance measures (e.g. A8) to achievement judgments. Is that right?

I've joined forces with Prof Colin Richards, Prof Peter Tymms and Prof Frank Coffield in creating a way for schools to share their views on recent inspection experiences. Peter Tymms produced a short video on whether context is really taken into account. thealternativebiglisten.co.uk/f/monitoring-o…

@Headteacherchat I worry about comments like this. Does it really help school leaders with school improvement - or does it contribute to the culture of pandering to the shifting demands of the Ofsted regime?
