law nerds: why is it “innocent UNTIL proven guilty” and not “innocent UNLESS proven guilty?” Doesn’t “until” kind of imply that evidence of guilt will eventually be found?

@willbcampos The court does, inherently, actually assume guilt - that's why the person is in court and on trial - but they have to presume that they are false *until enough* valid evidence has been presented and tested before they can assuredly say that yes, this person is actuslly guilty.

@willbcampos semantics nerd here! the phrase is inherentently directed at the ruling government whose job it is to actually establish that guilt exists. whenever someone is charged that guilt is assumed. it will exist until another case is established which takes time :)

@willbcampos It basically refers to there being a scale of guilt. There's almost always one or two pieces of evidence that could 'prove' guilt, but not until it is argued fairly in court. There are tests of law that are undertaken in order to prove one guilty.
