@RepTonyWied Dear Rep Wied,
Why don't you do something about the unholy amount of carbon dioxide that your country puts out into the atmosphere every day.
Oh, wait. Your President says you can't talk about that. My bad.
Instead of complaining, do something constructive.

🚨 Halifax Down 10 Fire Trucks 🚨
Today, 10 fire trucks are out of service or tied up in mandatory training—with no professional fire fighter backfill in place.
Unavailable units:
4E, 6E, 8 Tact, 11T, 45E, 15E, 5Q, 12E, 12A, 12 Tact
Halifax Professional Fire Fighters believe ongoing training is essential—but it should never come at the expense of public safety.
To help ensure four fire fighters are on every truck, HPFF made contractual concessions by agreeing to straight-time overtime. Yet when training takes crews away from their coverage area, management refuses to backfill with professional fire fighters.
Our members are ready and willing to work. They’ve stepped up time and again. But management continues to leave trucks empty rather than pay our members to maintain coverage.
📍 What’s the cost of a slower response to your emergency?
📍 What’s the risk when fire fighters have to wait longer for backup?
We’re calling on HRFE management to fix this—professional fire protection can’t be optional. Response times matter.

Just hours after our public safety post, another fire.
At 11:20 a.m. today, #hfxfirefighters responded again to St. Pat’s-Alexandra. Two separate fires were found on the 3rd floor. Crews from Station 3 (West St) acted fast and knocked them down before they could spread.
These buildings are a real and ongoing threat to public and fire fighter safety.

Following the Bloomfield fire, #hfxfirefighters proactively inspected St. Patrick’s-Alexandra — a derelict building we respond to often.
Used needles outside. Fire load inside. Signs of entry, fire setting & occupancy.
This Wed, our members responded to heavy smoke & found a working fire on the 2nd floor. It was knocked down quickly before it could spread.

It’s remarkable to find ourselves at odds with our best friend and neighbour.
It will take thoughtfulness and time but we will get through this. There are things within our control that we must act on. We must ramp up our focus on finding new markets here at home with programs like Nova Scotia Loyal, focus on developing our own resources, eliminate inter-provincial trade barriers and, finally, of course, by looking for international diversification.
We will do these things and no matter what, I will do everything I can to protect the interests of hard-working Nova Scotians and their families.
Nova Scotians are my concern.
We are anxious to understand the federal government’s plans for programs to support Nova Scotians, and we will also do what we can but it is too early to determine exactly what is necessary.
In response to U.S. tariffs, the following are the steps we will take.
First, Nova Scotia will limit access to provincial procurement for American businesses. We will look for opportunities to cancel existing contracts and will maintain the option to reject bids outright because of President Trump’s unlawful tariffs.
Second, the cost of tolls at the Cobequid Pass will double for commercial vehicles from the United States, effective February 3, 2025.
Finally, we will direct the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation to remove all alcohol from the United States from their shelves effective February 4, 2025.
