The Last Jedi and Rian Johnson are fundamentally misunderstood. This Lucasfilm 10 min documentary "Balance of the Force" accompanies the Digital/Blu-Ray releases and is a MUST WATCH!

This is absolutely insane 🫠 People are yearning for a LOTR game like this. We’ve somehow normalized waiting 2 years for 6 episodes of a TV show and a decade for a game sequel. Imagine getting a new GTA game every year. AI will replace the bottlenecks, not human direction.

@willkostakis @jtimsuggs Its a weak conflict meant to subvert. Its purpose was to create a side quest for Finn that ultimately led to the FO learning of the escape shuttles. Then it tries to give a big sacrifice scene to a character whose only relationship to the audience up to that point is antagonistic

Probably a hot take, but I feel like this moment in The Last Jedi wouldn’t have been nearly as impactful had Admiral Ackbar done this maneuver instead of Holdo.
We as an audience already know and can trust Admiral Ackbar, much like how Poe Dameron also probably did in-universe.
The entire point of Holdo’s character is that both the audience and Poe DON’T know who she is or what her true motivations are, so learning that we were just in the wrong as Poe, and seeing Holdo eventually make the ultimate sacrifice to save The Resistance, makes that move just as thematically profound as it is visually stunning.
Had it been Ackbar, there would’ve been no tension during Poe’s arc whatsoever, and that moment would’ve felt more like fan service instead of a way to, quite literally, converge every individual arc together.

I’m a huge Admiral Ackbar fan and I’ve said many times that I wish his character had a larger role in the Sequel Trilogy. I love the original Holdo Maneuver sequence, but I also really love this fan edit showing Ackbar sacrificing himself to save the Resistance! #StarWars

@jtimsuggs I see your point, but i disagree. Its hardly good filmmaking to finger waive at your audience by saying "yeah this character who you don't have any meaningful interactions with, and is immediately antagonistic torwards a character whose proven themselves" is better actually

@spurs7699 @AntiVector Actually, Order of the Phoenix is the biggest, with 870 pages (at least in my copy). Half-Blood Prince is 652. I think she realized she went a little too long with OotP and cut back a little with HBP. I agree that the HP books are still mostly great (JKR sux though)

I don't want to belittle Mad Men but I think it's partially a reflection of how poor most of TV is today. Netflix slop that's supposed to be watched while you're on your phone isn't going to produce the last shot of Season 5, the best in the series and one of the best in TV history.
