This is the face of an elephant exploited for decades for human entertainment in a circus. Torn from the wild as a calf, transported from Africa to Europe, over the years she's seen all her friends disappear, leaving her all alone. Now in her mid-forties, suffering health problems associated with prolonged captivity, she's worthless as a performer. But people who value her life have found a way to make her remaining years as happy as they can be. They founded Europe's first large-scale elephant sanctuary. They hired a specialist team to care for her. They found her a friend. This is Julie. She can now live in freedom, peace and safety. Her new friend, Kariba, will soon be joining her.
