All marketing is psyopping to some extent, but marketing to LLMs seems to me very much a return to facts, and less vibes. Think it actually bodes well for the future. Generally it’s a bad idea to try to fool these models — they are really good at smelling marketing bullshit. The best thing to do is present them with empirical and even handed evidence that your brand can deliver on its promise for your ideal customer.

@willwjack But... This is bad. Psy-opping is bad, manipulation is bad. Why would you choose to further worsen the epistemic commons? This would hurt everyone- Don't make tools for evil. I think you should pivot your company to something more ethical. Future-you will be glad.

3) Attribution is hard. When someone learns about your product on an AI tool, they tend to do a zero-click or direct search of your company. You can’t figure out where they came from or how they learned about you — unlike SEO, where last-click attribution is reliable. You need to “triangulate” to attribute. Correlate sales call transcripts, new traffic and earned media, sample prompts, bot crawls on pages, ChatGPT citation click through, and more in order to understand the impact of your campaigns. It’s not going to be as clear cut as SEO, but it’s still possible to get leading indicators.

AI is your next channel, and it doesn't behave like anything you've seen before. You shouldn't be gaming prompts like you game SEO keywords. You aren't going to trick superintelligence. You need to earn genuine credibility with AI models themselves, just like a good PR strategy. 🧵
