Before Avatar, there was Sanxingdui (三星堆)👽✨. Close to the time of Tutankhamun and Troy, in southwest China's Sichuan, the homeland of giant pandas 🐼, lies this Bronze Age civilization that could blow your mind. Although independent of the central government, Sanxingdui seemed to enjoy considerable favor, even gaining access to the era's most closely guarded secret: bronze-casting techniques. They took Central Plains designs and added their own wild flair, producing an insane number of bronze objects for their gods. Their human figurines are strikingly exaggerated, so much so that many Chinese jokingly call them aliens. But this facial style didn't come from nowhere: it has been traced from the lower Yangtze to the middle reaches, finally reaching Sanxingdui. I wrote a series of tweets about some of the Sanxingdui artifacts two years ago, each one is truly awe-inspiring. Besides bronze sculptures, most of these figurines were presented as masks, likely arranged in rows within temples. Around 3,000 years ago, possibly due to natural disasters, wars, or epidemics, people lost faith in their gods, smashed the statues, and buried the broken figures along with bronze objects in eight pits, before relocating a hundred kilometers away. In 1986, two of the eight pits were discovered for the first time; a few years later, the remaining six were also excavated. I have some personal connection with Sanxingdui: a classmate of mine at Stanford once led the excavation of one of the pits, and in 2024, I had the pleasure of visiting Sanxingdui in person with @RnaudBertrand and his lovely family. Recently, the National Museum of China held an epic Sanxingdui exhibition, curated by a longtime friend of mine. There, I unexpectedly came across a bronze human figure unearthed from Pit 1 in 1986. It bore a striking resemblance to a character from @officialavatar. And another bronze figure with a gold mask even has a "neural queue." For a moment, I had a wild thought: perhaps the people of Pandora have been to Sichuan? @JimCameron, if you are ever looking for inspiration for the next Avatar, how about somewhere beyond Zhangjiajie? Sanxingdui might be the place. Hollywood imagined Avatar in the 21st century. Ancient Sichuan people cast, and maybe even lived it, three millennia ago. 🚀🌏

Anak-anak saat ini lebih menerima banyak informasi, baik dari internet maupun dari lingkungan terdekatnya (keluarga, teman permainan, sekolah, dan sebagainya). Masa pertumbuhan yang penuh rasa ingin tahu menyebabkan anak-anak lebih mudah mengingat apa yang mereka terima. Biasakan tidak menormalisasikan “namanya juga anak-anak”. Mari sebagai umat beragama, agar kita lebih bijak untuk mengajarkan anak-anak kita, yang di masa mendatang nanti akan menjadi pemimpin-pemimpin di negeri ini.
