@wookash_podcast I see a bunch of comments but wanted to add that the Nanite octree-based cut clustering was published and implemented in 2008. A great resource among many recently, including a header in Meshoptimizer for creating the DAG and Traverse Research's blog. vcg.isti.cnr.it/~ponchio/downl…

My colleague wrote one of the first SSR implementations (Ubisoft, 2011). His response: I don't understand why people do SSR in the view space -- Maybe if they don't know how to do perspective correct marching in screen space.. kind of old-school thing that was needed for implementing triangle rasterization back in the day for software rasterizers.
Dan Greenheck@dangreenheck

I asked Claude to look for some opportunistic improvements for the SSR implementation. One was switching over from raymarching in view space to marching in screen space using DDA (digital differential analyzer). The performance improvement is minimal but the benefit is improved sampling accuracy resulting in improved reflection quality. Notice how the reflection of the top of the boat and rocks is more filled in using the screen space approach (right) vs. the view space approach (left).

@TheStalwart Based on my calculations they can cut 40% of their staff an infinite number of times causing their stock to go up 20% each time.

@ElstnerMartin @eatonphil There was never any black magic implied, it was always a game of spending money on lots of small hard disks... They told everyone to put the data in one disk and each index in another disk, so that each row change could use the N+1 spindles it would need.

@eatonphil We never thought that much about traditional indices; just expected them to work (and vendors played their part in letting us believe in some kind of black magic)

Look what Dave built: Amiga demoscene FX website. Via WhatsApp. 🤯 Meet Dave. Dave is my OpenClaw agent that I set up more than a week ago. If you don't know, OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent orchestrator that has been blowing up – over 100k GitHub stars in under a week and the inventor 🦄 Peter Steinberger was just hired by OpenAI. 🚀 Obviously, I did NOT install OpenClaw on my own machine. Security first. He runs in a fully isolated sandbox VM, locked down IP and ports, no access to any of my real accounts. But even in this restricted setup, what Dave can do is impressive. Especially with coding, cron jobs, and autonomous research. For this example here I simply texted Dave on WhatsApp: "Research the most famous Commodore Amiga 500 demoscene effects and build me a website that recreates them in JavaScript canvas. With procedural chiptune music." 👾 And that's exactly what he did. Copper bars, starfields, plasma, rotozoom and of coruse the sine scroller. Of course I had to refine things here and there, but all of it happened through conversation. No IDE. No git push. Just chat. 🤖 And remember: we're still just scratching the surface.

@moultano You mean sort of like the classic X files episode where they insert one parasite to make it kill the one that had infected the previous day?

Whenever I get sick I keep hoping that it will be a great time for my hobbies instead of just wasting the time being miserable, and it just doesn't work out. The time really is just gone.

@winden I would go full screen with proper overlaid scores on PC every time. The Uridium screen was the height it was as that was all I had time to scroll. We can go full screen width now since there are no borders on PC. Did the Uridium 2 radar help?

So if, hypothetically, I was going to create a New Uridium, what would I have to change to please everyone, and how might we achieve that? Make it easier, put training wheels on the Manta? Slow it down? Remove the meanies? Fly over a flat surface? Is it still Uridium?

Björn Ottosson - making Island Architect
Check it out here: shadertoy.com/view/WX3fRB The most exciting bit is that this little expression approximates a diffuse lighting from a SG very well, with R being the resultant mean length, which naturally maps to raytracing denoiser output.

@UridiumAuthor 2. I liked the gameplay of Amiga Uridium 2 much more than Uridium 1, that said.. the Uridium 1 I played was the speccy conversion.
