@BillStephens47 @Matt_Rodewald Without super deep research, there are at least four "Central" schools in Illinois that I always add the geographic designation to even if it's not technically part of the name (plus the other 20 that *actually* include the signifier).

@Matt_Rodewald As a Class of 91 Central alum, you are correct. But, there are so many Central HS around the state, sometimes it's just easier to add the Burlington to it. And, I was one of the many from the Elgin area.

As a former journalist yourself, I’m sure you will appreciate when I say this. The name of the school is not Burlington Central. It’s Central. It always has been. In 78 years as a school district, the name Burlington has never been in their name. Burlington Twp & Plato Center consolidated in the height of the 1940s era of shrinking school districts to protect state funding. They chose Central because the plot of land for the schools where the HS/MS & elementary school now sit is right between both townships. It was ideal at the time. Today: 85% of the student enrollment has an Elgin address. But only a handful of students come from Burlington. In fact CHS has a post office address in Hampshire. Fun right!? I’ve got more facts if you’re curious. You could help spread the message of truth. I know that’s what you’re all about.

@ViewFromWestPod ...my alma mater is now in a conf with less wrestling, TF, XC, and GBB, and a whopping 0 other speech teams. I truly like the FB qualifying, but it left plenty of other activities shaken for the sake of that 5th FB win. Time for the experiment🧪 (Still, the SMAC part concerns me)

@ViewFromWestPod Do you think people are putting too much emphasis on the football cons here and not enough on the good it can do for other sports? Anecdotally, i think of schools like old Interstate-8 or new Upstate 8 where football was a heavy factor in shifts.

@ViewFromWestPod -Will we see a proposal next year for all other sports to start limiting postseason qualifiers? If the postseason is REALLY that important for a school to "qualify," that would be an easy bandwagon for those schools to hop. I think we'd watch conferences burn though.

@ViewFromWestPod -If people are worried about blowout games in the first round or two, why do we still allow it to happen in Week 3? No one ever WANTS a blowout, but it would reinforce good teams vs teams needing work.

@ViewFromWestPod -Is it creating more "meaningless" games or more "meaningful" games? For instance, a 1-5 starting team can go 4-5, but their Week 7-9 games have no "meaning" if they can't qualify.

🚨BREAKING🚨 Proposal 19, which will move the start of IHSA football games up one week and add 16 teams per classification to the playoffs has PASSED. This is a seismic shift in how the postseason will be structured and we can expect plenty of fall out.

@NUICFootball I know we won't know the impact, but I think football-driven conference switches will subside, which I know was a reason for this (and the district prop). Hoping to see some revived conference rivalry as dust clears. I've been called naive before, and today is no different.

@BandoPretzel If this many fans/coaches/schools think this is "watering the playoffs down," I expect to see a proposal to limit the teams that make basketball et al postseasons on the ballot next year. It's another game for students, let's enjoy that.

@ViewFromWestPod Hot take: I won't subscribe to "it'll water down the playoffs" until I see a proposal to require 15 wins for basketball teams to make the postseason. If qualification is REALLY that important, it would've spread. (I know it's not completely the same, but you get my point).
