The idea of an agent-driven economy is gaining traction
@brian_armstrong said autonomous AI agents could eventually outgrow the human economy, as systems begin handling research, negotiation, and transactions on their own.
He pointed to a gap between capability and market pricing.
Agentic commerce is still early, but if AI systems start transacting at scale, it could drive demand for machine-native payments, especially in crypto.
Coinbase is already building toward that, with tools designed for agent-to-agent transactions and programmable wallets.
Estimates suggest trillions in potential economic activity if agents become active participants in markets.
But the shift is not straightforward.
Adoption, regulation, and trust in autonomous systems all remain open questions.
What’s becoming clearer is the direction.
With AI agents moving from tools to economic actors, the structure of markets may start to change.

Chief scientist at @OpenAI, JakubPachocki says AI is approaching the capability level of a human research intern, able to contribute to technical work in coding, mathematics, and structured problem-solving, though still short of functioning as a fully autonomous researcher.
That framing is important, AI progress has been judged through benchmarks, demos, and conversational fluency. But the more meaningful measure is now practical usefulness inside expert environments. Can a system assist researchers, run evaluations, summarize findings, debug workflows, and meaningfully increase the output of skilled teams?
A capable research intern does exactly that.
This suggests the next stage of AI adoption will not be a sudden replacement of scientists or engineers. It will be the rise of force multipliers for knowledge work. A single expert supported by several reliable AI systems could soon operate with the capacity of a much larger team.
The real challenge then shifts from raw intelligence to operational trust. Systems need to sustain useful work over longer periods, handle multi-step tasks, and remain accurate enough to be integrated into real workflows. It is one thing for a model to solve a prompt in minutes. It is another to contribute productively across hours or days with limited supervision.
What OpenAI is signaling is that autonomy may arrive gradually, starting with junior-level workload before senior-level judgment. That is how most technological transitions happen, not through dramatic replacement, but through incremental absorption of repetitive and structured tasks.
The greatest value of AI is in expanding the productive bandwidth of experts while preserving human direction, accountability, and standards. The first truly useful autonomous systems may look more like dependable teammates.

Every AI system has blind spots, areas where it fails consistently and predictably. These are not random errors but systematic limitations that reflect the architecture and training of the model.
The dangerous part is that these blind spots are often invisible to both users and creators until they cause significant problems. We're building systems that appear increasingly competent while maintaining hidden vulnerabilities.
What we need is not just error detection but blind spot mapping, systematic approaches to identify where AI systems will fail before they do. The most trustworthy AI is the one whose limitations are fully understood.

The first global, city-scale 3D map is taking shape, and it’s machine-readable.
City-scale environments can now be reconstructed in high-fidelity, reaching a level of detail that is becoming almost indistinguishable from reality.
This leap is made possible by large-scale mapping using just an Insta360 X5 and Over the Reality technology.
So far, our dataset includes:
- 220,000+ 3D mapped locations
- 97M images
- 1,000TB of spatial data
Growing by more than 10,000+ newly mapped locations every week.
Enabling Visual AI, Robotics, VPS, XR, and Digital twins.

@_PradeepGoel Convenience is real, but I see the real risk in overreliance. I use tools to sharpen thinking, not replace it.

As we outsource more cognitive tasks to AI, we're creating an unprecedented risk of collective skill atrophy. The convenience of AI assistance comes with the cost of diminished human capability.
This is affecting higher order thinking like strategic reasoning and creative problem solving. We're optimizing for immediate productivity at the expense of long-term cognitive resilience.
