Yesterday, I submitted a proposal on @Upwork for a job. This morning, I received an email that the job has been removed cos it didn't meet the standard. It got me thinking, do we still have fake job posting on @upwork like we do have in @indeed and other job posting sites?

@gab_builds @Emmy9627 @Ms_Ada6 That’s frustrating, especially when you actually have work to show. At that point it’s probably less about “do I have proof?” and more about how quickly the proposal connects that proof to what the client asked for. The angle has to be clear early.

@abm_graphics @_ZainabOladokun Yeah, that’s rough when you’re new. Sometimes the proposal isn’t even terrible — it just doesn’t give the client a reason to keep reading fast enough. First few lines matter a lot. Show you understood the job, then bring in proof.

@hazemhusseinv8 @DevAbdoTolba Yeah, filtering harder is probably the only sane way now. Applying to everything burns connects too fast. Better to pick fewer jobs where you actually have a clear angle, then make the proposal specific enough that it doesn’t feel copy-pasted.

@PappyTeeee @just_andydev When connects are limited, you really have to be picky. For QA jobs, I’d lead with the exact thing the client cares about — bugs found, regression testing, test coverage, automation, or clear reporting. A general “I can test your app” usually gets ignored.

@ekwusah40620 @Upwork That early stage is honestly frustrating. The main thing is to make applying less heavy. Keep a few proof examples ready, tailor the first few lines to the job, and don’t rewrite everything from scratch every time.

For Django/Python jobs, I’d focus on the ones where you can quickly connect your past work to what they need, APIs, dashboards, backend fixes, automation, integrations, that kind of thing. Generic proposals burn connects

@Ms_Ada6 I've an Upwork account, can't remember the last time I used it because I can't see myself spending Soo much of my time, finances and emotions on connects and stuffs just to ignored by clients for a year... Change the dollars to naira, you'll know how much you're investing

Maybe buy a small amount first, test 5–10 very targeted jobs, and track which ones get views or replies. That way you don’t spend too much before knowing what works for your niche

@Jorafr That’s frustrating. You did the right thing with the watermark though. For logo/design work, I’d never send clean final files before payment. At most, send watermarked preview + note that final files are released after payment. Some clients disappear once they get what they need.

@MrSheriffTaiwo Fake invites are one of the most annoying parts of the whole thing. You spend connects, time, and attention before even knowing if the opportunity is real. That’s why filtering the job before writing anything matters so much now.

Recently I have experience an invite from this spam account several on upwork, the account keep posting job that does exist, the moment you accepted the invite , he will send a link , once you click on the link otilor , After reporting the account several yesterday same thing happened again but was surprised me most is the number of people who wasted their Connects on this fake job ,some might even boost it .... If you're in Ecommerce (Shopify) niche on upwork you need to be watchful @Upwork you can actually do better, connect is so expensive yet you keep giving opportunity for people trying to hunt on people hard earned fund.
