I can’t think of a more thoughtful gift than the power of coding like there are 100 of you
Techbronyc@techbronyc
Going to my college roommates wedding this weekend, and instead of gifting him $500 in cash I’m giving Claude credits and a link to gstack in the card. Your gifts should be quantified in agent hours enabled and not fiat.

@Steve_Yegge Maybe tell your buddy to do some actual work and to stop spreading absolute nonsense. This post is completely false and just pure clickbait.

another day of ridiculous progress. the Bend→Metal compiler has been completed. IN ONE DAY. opus-4.6 + gpt-5.4-pro did it on the background, while I was working on something else and barely providing input. it is done. it works. the tests pass. and despite being the very first run, it is already faster than single-threaded C, and by tomorrow, it will be much faster
I think we've all got too desensitized to realize how insane this all is. years building Bend1 and it barely had a functional RTX 4090 only runtime with 24-bit numbers and a fat interpretation overhead. Bend2 now runs *compiled* on the GPU of any macbook in the world. no interpreter, no overhead, just a high level language running directly on your graphics card
I feels like every other day a whole 1-month project is completed. and this is not even mythos or spud, this is opus 4.6 which is dumb as hell
22 years programming, and I never felt anything like that
we'll witness a whole industrial revolution before 2030

@AndrzOdrz are you doing research on analog computers? Congrats on the paper - looks very interesting. Bookmarked it for a full read during the next weekend

Young people (20s) barely use websites, 70% prefer apps, they mostly exist inside apps and games not websites
thoughtlesslabs@thoughtlesslabs
Agree with the calculator piece but my brain can't quite stretch all the way to websites in general being a thing of the past. I think peoplle and business still will need and want to put out a representation of themselves that they control. But yes, a calculator as lead driver is very likely going away

@bcherny Sometimes /export generates 0-sized files. I wonder if this is a known bug. Corresponding .jsonl exists and is ~2.6MB
