Totally agreed, but when will social conservatives admit and then take on why that is? *Why* young men have checked out? I can tell you why: because we made working hard **not worth it** to young men. What makes it worth it to work hard? I can think of one very powerful, time tested motivator. What we have done is create a situation where we ask more and more young men to patiently wait around for that “motivating factor” (to be polite) for a decade or more, while a smaller and smaller of cohort of men enjoy it with a larger and larger cohort of women, because to commit to its 1:1, unique mutual enjoyment is became something that should only happen “after college”, then “after a career” so as to be “ready” to do things like start a family. That’s a very long time we’re asking young men to: a) watch that all play out in front of them b) not get demoralized and resentful c) put up with a society that shames them constantly, and then suddenly find those 30 something women with a past (and debt, and often an attitude) just as attractive for marriage. The strategy isn’t working out. Maybe it’s time we stop?
