@Petteri_Mommo @Lfromthenorth Slavs–slaves connection is not solely of Lithuanian origin, as even the famous Italian "ciao" derives from Venetians proclaiming themselves as sclavus ~ sciavus ~ sciavo ~ (s)ciao 'Slav/slave/servant' to their superiors. Compare still-common German "servus".

@Lfromthenorth Linguistically profiling here: you´re Germanic but it´s fair to pigeon-hole Finns as Slavic. The nomenclature dates back to Lithuania´s hyperpower era when anybody they could take as a slave was known as a ... Slav. Finnics fit the bill.

@MickCraftGaming RoC Humans, RoC Undead (best being the first chapter, then slowly descending in quality over the course of the campaign), TFT Undead Sylvanas chapters, TFT Humans ~ Blood Elves (with quality descent again towards the end). TFT Night Elves is actually quite solid as well.

The Scourge of Lordaeron This has to be my favorite campaign from Warcraft 3. The now iconic character of Arthas gets his start in this campaign, and you even fight alongside Uther the Lightbringer. What is your favorite WC3 campaign? Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002)

Who else remembers these Warcraft 3 bonus maps that would come out on Mojo Stormstout's Warcraft III Strategy Guide? Today is a great day to play "Funny Bunny's Egg Hunt!" 🐰🥚

@MarcoRedwolf @tobi_horn @fasc1nate You never thought that each of these monochrome images could again be filtered when composing them together for the final image, restoring the corresponding luminance for each of three colors? A reminder how important knowing the basics and studying the history is in any field.

@tobi_horn @fasc1nate Totally different technology. 3 color process began in 1710. There is absolutely no relationship between black and white photos taken through colored filters and ink printing. Black and white film can only produce a black and white image . Period end of discussion.

Long before color film existed, Russian photographer Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky created vivid color images by taking three separate black-and-white photographs through red, green, and blue filters, then combining them into a single full-color picture. This self-portrait is more than 113 years old. More rare photos: bit.ly/44OpIzi

@3linker @oldyzach The most audiovisually pleasing, by far. Sure HoMM3 is more advanced almost in all technical senses, but can it make up for the personality and the atmosphere of HoMM2? Ask me, and the answer is a clear no.

I'm starting to compile a list of games that are perfect for me to play while traveling (train, plane, bus, wtv). I definitely include Heroes of Might & Magic II in that group, combined with that marvel known as fheroes2.

Dude who wanted to take the Ring for himself to save his kingdom but decided the mission to destroy it was more important because it would save the world, and died for that cause. King who initially refused to aid another kingdom because they didn't help when they needed it, but ultimately decided fighting evil and saving their civilization was more important than his petty grudge, and died for that cause. Guy who lived a life of cruelty and greed who got corrupted by a quasi-demonic force that turned him into a monster and made him suffer in loneliness for hundreds of years until given the chance to redeem himself and genuinely tried but ultimately failed by giving into temptation and betraying the only person who could bring him salvation. "No moral complexity."

@MatthewPGilbert @SandyofCthulhu Firebats and vultures replaced with non-splash damage grenade-launching marauders and radio-controlled-toy-looking hellion. Guardians learned to spawn broodlings and were renamed brood lords, while arbiters somehow became motherships. StarCraft II? StarCraft 1.5.

@MatthewPGilbert @SandyofCthulhu StarCraft II is not the brave, innovational return to the RTS stage it looked like during development. It's taking the units and concepts in StarCraft 1 and slightly tweaking them, renaming some of them in the process and making everything look plastic.

Our bitter rival at Ensemble Studios. We had JUST released Age of Empires and then StarCraft comes out. All the cute girls at the club hung out at StarCraft’s table. We only got the nerdy ones. We punched back in 2002 with Age of Mythology which carried StarCraft’s asymmetry even further. Then in 2005 we did Age of Empires 3 which was the best graphics anyone had seen in an RTS game to date. And, again, lots of asymmetry. StarCraft always stayed the cool jock though. While we were the smart kid with taped glasses and a pocket protector over in the corner of the cafeteria.

@SandyofCthulhu Age of Mythology is an excellent RTS, one whose asymmetry I won't even try to match in my own game. But more asymmetric than StarCraft? I argue against. Most importantly, zerg produce their units completely differently -- and are the only ones with traditional technology tiers.

@KostasFnord @N_ticx @memeslich Lot of older games actually did that with underlying d20 rolls, usually invisible. Think Morrowind, KOTOR 1/2, Neverwinter, etc. Though I think BG3 is fantastic and made the right call going turn based.
