@EricIrving134 @TheMetsX Well that’s completely different from “panning out” because a prospect becoming a major league regular is the indicator of success.

@EricIrving134 @TheMetsX The Yankees have produced a load of major league quality players. I’m sorry that they only produced one all time level hitting talent in the crop of players since 2017.

@TheMetsX I understood it🖐️ On a serious note the Yankees haven’t had a real prospect pan out since Aaron Judge back in 2017. Long time coming on this one…

@nise_yoshimi I think it has a lot to do with the show not knowing what to do with Hughie, either. He’s the heart of the comic and exploring Butcher is done through the eyes of Hughie. But Hughie isn’t that for Homelander in the show. He just feels like another dude.

key divergence between the boys comic/tv show is that the comic has more interest in billy butcher rather than homelander as the charismatic embodiment of a broken worldview, which itself is more self-critical and potentially interesting. too bad about a lot of the rest of it

@DubDotDUBBY Bro college players still play with metal bats. Like what are we doing here? If you gave Giancarlo Stanton a metal bat, they would have start keeping a stat to track the amount of players he would kill on game by game basis lmao

@jjmaples55 It’s 100% baseball. Even the most polished college players rarely make the jump to the bigs quickly. And even then, it’s far more rare for them to make immediate impact and be stars.

@shegone03 @mikedaviswins MVP, 3 time champion, and the best catcher of his generation. I don’t think an arbitrary amount of hits should be the defining part of his hall of fame case. Posey was amazing.

@shteivred @_24kin Okay but acting like the hitter is the only isolating variable is wrong. The pitcher was most effective against right handed hitters. Over a .200 OPS difference. They made a decision. It didn’t work, that’s baseball

@womprat48 @_24kin Using slugging (or OPS) in a situation where you need one hit for a tie and have 2 outs instead of using on base percentage and batting average is also, by the way, not how you use the analytics.

Again, this isn’t how you do analytics. This is only the *start* of the equation. Escarra is not even a replacement level hitter. Goldy is an above replacement level hitter, and especially above average against his like handedness pitchers. He’s not your average righty!
Kin Knows Ball@_24kin

For anyone wondering why Boone went with J.C. Escarra to finish the game.. Anthony Bender allowed a .211 wOBA to right handers last season and a .294 wOBA to lefties. Escarra is very likely the best option there

@shteivred @_24kin They both had about the same level of success against righties last year. Goldy had a higher batting average, but Escarra was more likely to hit for extra bases. The difference being that the marlins pitcher has, historically, been far more effective against righties than lefties

@_24kin @shteivred “We should hit the guy who gets owned by righties against the guy who owns righties.” These people aren’t serious, man.

@hausofdecline They forget because he went on to post 3 miserable seasons offensively right after that and has never come close to replicating his 2022 season.

People forget that Andrés Giménez put up a 7 WAR season with Cleveland and got a bunch of MVP votes. People forget this because it was Cleveland.

@StlllWest @Damon98_ Players fail to live up to expectations, injury crisis, division too good. I mean you can pick a reason out of a hat. It’s just opening day engagement hype

@Damon98_ Even with bold predictions there has to be reasons for it and I just don’t see how a team who objectively got better regresses so badly they miss the playoffs. The Jays would have to be so bad they win 10-12 less games than they did last season.

Rewatched the 2025 World Series last night and couple of notes... 1. Why the hell was Anthony Banda pitching in the bottom of the 6th in a 3-run game with bases loaded to Addison Barger before the grand slam 2. Will Smith's heroics aren't talked about enough, hit two late game go ahead HRs in game 2 and 7 that won both games. 3. The Dodgers somehow won with only 2 guys above an 800 OPS that series, including Mookie at a .424 OPS and Freddie at a .688 OPS. 4. Shohei Ohtani gave up 7 ER in 8.1 IP, 3 being in game 7 5. That is the worst sports loss I've ever seen and I don't think it's close😂 To Miguel Rojas of all people man holy shit
