Starting to brainstorm a "deep sequence models for biologists" class. The plan is to spend a month on intro to ML with PyTorch and then move on to specific useful models / use cases. Other than AlphaFold and/or ESM what other models would you recommend covering?

RNAseq counting tools are not perfect. I simulated 240 GTEx samples to test multiple tools. Below I show the difference between actual and estimated counts for each simulated sample. But, what is causing this? And will it affect differential expression? (1/7) #Bioinformatics

@misguidedsoul7 He seems to think that once you get to 20%, there is some magic "saturation" that occurs and the virus becomes less lethal. But I have not completely followed the full logic and would love for someone to help me understand.

This man is a Nobel laureate; doesn't seem to get that NYC (which is comparable to some European country populations) had over 2,000 deaths per million population. That infection rates, regionally, have been > NYC. And that the virus in Texas is not watching local NY TV.
Michael Levitt@MLevitt_NP2013

Thanks so much. Total population and totally annual natural deaths very similar to EuroMOMO area. Right now there are overall 414 reported deaths/million in US. If same as Europe, US about 80% complete. Certainly hope this is true and US saturates at no more than 170,000 deaths.

Instead of fireworks extravaganzas this July 4, I think a lot of people would feel the American idea were more meaningfully celebrated if cities put that money into social programs that lasted longer than a few minutes and left people truly better off. While panicking zero dogs.

@josheidelson Season 1 takes a few episodes and it gets really good. Season 2, OTOH, is some of the best TV I’ve seen. Possible I just oversold this.

Exercising during #COViD19 - a new study finds you are at risk in a someone else’s slipstream. Keep 4-5 meters distance running, 10 meters for slow biking. Otherwise run/bike next to someone, not behind them. @jurgenthoelen/belgian-dutch-study-why-in-times-of-covid-19-you-can-not-walk-run-bike-close-to-each-other-a5df19c77d08" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@jurgenthoelen
